Bones Marathon Week

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: budget

Last week I received an email from Netflix announcing that they have developed a way to stream Netflix play instantly items through your Wii. I remember when this concept first came out it was just for the Playstation 3 but I was intrigued by it. Since I don’t have cable, my television options are pretty limited. Plus, I enjoy playing on the internet while watching television so hooking the laptop up to the television eliminates that.

I immediately ordered my free setup disk from Netflix and it arrived the next day. I waited until Sunday after Mike left for New Jersey to set it up and ever since I have been having a Bones mini-marathon. I first watched the show last month on Fox and was enamored with it. I found it a little gross at first but now that I am 17 episodes into season 1, it doesn’t even bother me any more. I just love the mystery/murder solving aspect to the show. It probably explains why I also love Castle.

If you have a Wii and Netflix, order your dvd today to set things up. You won’t regret it. If you don’t have a Wii but have an XBox 360 or a PS3, there are separate dvds you can order to set those up too. It is so nice to be able to watch Netflix items through the play instantly option without having to waste your rentals on tv shows.

This is just another reason why I love Netflix and how it is perfect for any budget conscious person.

Toys R Us: Video Game Sale Buy 2 Get 1 Free

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: budget

It is time for the annual Toys R Us Video Game Sale.  If you are ready to start your holiday shopping and have a gamer in your family you will not want to miss this sale.  Now through Saturday, October 17, 2009, Toys R Us is offering a buy 2 get 1 free promotion on over 800 titles.  This sale is for all video game platforms and only excludes pre-order games.  So if it has been released and is in stores right now, it is fair game for the sale!

While you are there, you can pick up some accessories like Wii Remotes in the buy 2 get 1 sale as well as discounts on system bundles and free shipping.

I’m not sure what I’ll be buying but I know Madden 10 is on the list and maybe the Wii Sports Resort and EA Active.  I’ll report back later this week once I’ve done my shopping to share what I grabbed.  Leave a comment and let me know what you are buying.  I could use some ideas!

Welcome 2009!

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: Entertainment, family, fun

Well 2009 is officially here. I stayed up long enough to see Dick Clark’s Rocking New Years Eve Party and the ball drop in New York before I went to bed. I figured that seeing it drop an hour early wasn’t a big deal and would count for my time zone so around 11:30pm Mike and I were fast asleep.

We had a pretty fun NYE I have to say. We watched my LSU Tigers beat Georgia Tech in the Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl 38-3! We also played a few of our new Wii games – Super Mario Party 8 and Smarty Pants. I really liked Smarty Pants as it is a trivia game but SMP8 we just couldn’t figure out the point to and what we needed to do with it. Guess we better play some more so we can form an opinion. Overall, a fun night at home topped with Meat Lovers Pizza (add pineapple) from Papa Johns.

So 2009 is finally here and I can start on my New Years resolutions and get started in a few book challenges that I found online yesterday. If you love books and want to join a challenge stay tuned for my next few posts. If you aren’t an avid reader but want to start reading soon, be on the lookout for those posts too!

Are you a wii sore from the Wii?

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: Entertainment, family, fun

I have been visiting a few message boards and talking to some of my off-line friends and have been hearing about their experiences with their “new” Wiis.  It seems like some of them are coming down with quite the case of tennis elbow, sore leg muscles, or sore wrists.  Luckily, Mike and I have not experienced any negatives with our new Wii but we are making sure to switch up games and to take turns playing so that we do not injure ourselves.

I have never been one to want to play video games but I am really enjoying this new Wii.  I am hoping to connect the Wii fit in another hour or two once Mike goes back to studying at the table.  He’s laying in front of the tv blocking my Wii Fit area!  Hopefully he will pass this test on Sunday and there will be no more studying and just playing on the Wii.

So how are you holding up with your Wii?  What are your favorite games so far?  I am just in love with Sega Bass Fishing and Order Up.

Deal Alert: Memory Cards on the Cheap!

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: budget

Deal Alert! Deal Alert! Are you planning a vacation, need a budget gift idea, or just need more memory for your digital camera (or digital photo frame), or your wii? If you answered YES to any of these let me tell you about the deal I found this morning.

I woke up and decided to check my email like usual when Mike has to drive to Beaumont. Checking email that early, while it seems a bit obsessive to be on the computer that early, gives me something to do as I eat breakfast alone. Normally I just delete advertisement emails or emails from stores I infrequently shop at, but with needing to stick to a budget and cut down on recreational spending I am actually unsubscribing from most email lists I am on. In order to unsubscribe you have to actually open the email, scroll to the bottom, and then click on the link in very fine print to unsubscribe. Still with me? Good.

So I received one of these emails from Buy.com and in the email ad was the SD sized memory cards for $4. Yes you read that right. 1GB cards for just $4. Since I have vacations coming up and we need memory cards I headed right over there to see if that was a typo. Nope!! I ended up going with the 2GB cards for $9 each. I ordered 4 of them to be exact for Christmas presents, 2 for Mike and 2 for my friend Mikki who is also heading to Europe on a cruise and just happened to ask this weekend how many cards I was bringing since she needed some. I also grabbed two 2 GB Compact Flash cards since my camera uses those for just $11 each. Quite the bargain since two years ago I paid about $40 for a 1 GB card.

So if you need cheap holiday gifts run to Buy.com. There were a ton of things on sale besides memory cards, I just didn’t need any of it so I stayed away from the other categories. Don’t forget to shop through Sunshine Rewards for a 2% cash back reward. If you need to sign up for Sunshine Rewards click on my Earnings Tracker link on the left as there is a sign up link there and get started. With this economy every penny saved is worth it.
