I thought I’d give a mid-week update on my diet/lifestyle change. So far I have done really well I think. I’m still adjusting to using all my points and how to order when eating out. Right now we are right in the middle of the second quarter financial statement filing period which means 9-8 workdays and ordering in one meal a day. It has been a tad challenging but I am proud of my progress. I am no longer snacking all day at my desk or sneaking candy from the client candy jar. Instead I am sticking to what is in my lunch box and only bringing what I think I might need to eat during the day to work. My water intake, fruit/veggie intake, and milk intake is on par with where it should be and I am even managing to take my multivitamin each day. I know it’s only been 3 days but heck, I’m thrilled over this progress. I am finally showing willpower and wanting to change for myself. Finally, I already met my weekly goal of running 3 miles. I pushed myself last night and did 2 miles on the treadmill. I wasn’t setting out to go that long but I wanted to see how far I could push myself and I was happily surprised with how well it went. I think I’m going to continue this short runs majority of the week and one longer session.
Well that is all for this check in. Thanks for listening to me and encouraging me to keep going.

I realized I have not given a Weight Watchers update in about 3 weeks now which is pretty pathetic. I think it is because I have buried my head in the sand and tried to forget about how badly I have done.
So I finally stepped back on the scale today and luckily I was only at 151. This was quite the accomplishment since I have been eating out ALOT in these past 3 weeks starting with my 1 week at home vacation rolling right up to last night and then the things I have made at home haven’t quite been that healthy (BBQ shrimps with 2 sticks of butter - eek!).
So for the rest of this week I have resolved to do better. I am making one of our staples: tuna helper “helped” and we will be doing steaks at home this weekend to avoid going out to eat. I’m also heading back to the gym. During the 3 week diet hiatus I also took a 3 week weight lifting break so I started back up late last week with weights and it felt really good. The best is that I am able to push myself now without being sore and miserable the next day! So while it’s not a great victory in this battle that is a small non-scale victory that I will be happy to take. I need to finish planning out my food for the week & weekend and then post some recipe reviews for yall.

Week 10 came and went pretty darn fast. Work kept me pretty busy in that we had to speed up the filing of our Q1 by a week and had an extra filing thrown on us at the last minute that had to be out the door ASAP so they could beat their industry peers to market. Needless to say I was a bit tired and stressed last week but ate at home most of the week so not all nutrition wise was lost.
I did over do it this past weekend with eating out. Friday night we hit up Cadillac Bar (Mexican restaurant in the Landry’s chain) and had steak fajitas for 2 with garlic butter and some pretty colored drinks. Saturday was surf and turf night (more on that to come) and Sunday was Buffalo Wild Wings for the Spurs Game (Go Spurs Go!) since we lack cable and the game was on TNT. So at weigh in this morning I was up a pound due to sodium and beer. Well I have to live so I’m not going to beat myself up over 1 pound. I’ll just sweat it out this week.
I did start to think though, with these stressful times at work that keep popping up if maybe supplementing the diet and exercise with diet pills might help some. I’m not too familiar with them but know enough that Alli scares me a bit. I mean who wants to carry around extra pants and worry about what is or might come out. No thank you. But there are so many other pills on the market that I think could produce the same results without nasty consequences. I’m still in the research phase of this but I will definitely post back what I find out.

I realize I have not checked in with my results on Week 8 of Weight Watchers. I have a pretty good reason: because I was completely off the diet and don’t want to fess up. But since the week is almost over I probably should fess up so that I can see it in writing and learn that burying my head in the sand isn’t going to make the weight go away on its own.
So how was Week 8 you might ask: Well for starters I woke up with a terrible knot right below my shoulder blade last weekend that pretty much kept me out of the gym. I am use to knots but never any this bad. Basically I just layed around popping IB Profin pills and swapping out heating pads the entire time. No gym for me. Which then led to my spiral downwards because if I’m not going to the gym and feeling bad I should treat myself. Hmm maybe that isn’t the best idea/theory to have.
So in the end I was up 1 pound from the week before. Not terrible but not heading in the right direction. So I have spent this weekend trying to make up for it. Last night (yes a Friday night) I was at the gym running again. It felt fabulous to get on the treadmill and forget about the drama at work and the drama at home over this vacation issue. I was quite proud. I did 15 minutes of running and a total of 30 minutes on the treadmill before I threw in the towel due to horrible itching on my legs. Something about the apartment gym room makes me itch.
This afternoon I went to the actual gym (ie not the apartment gym) and had a great cardio session. 25 minutes on this new contraption called the summit trainer (pictured below) and then 45 minutes on the exercise bike. It felt fabulous to get in a really good sweat and I feel like I am back on the track to becoming a big loser (weight loss wise).

I’ve been doing Weight Watchers for 7 weeks now (middle of 8th week as we speak). To me, I have not seen any visible changes in my body shape but I know I am losing something somewhere as I’m down 6 pounds and have been lifting weights to firm up. I’m gradually seeing my little muscles poking out so I know its working.
Well I finally got fed up with wearing black or gray pants to work. I decided for kicks and giggles to try on a pair of my khakis that I bought last November/December which were the same style and brand of the black and grays but for some reason fit a little more snuggly. So after letting them sit for almost 5 months in my closet I took them out and tried them on again and guess what…
They are no longer too tight!!! Victory at last. So now I have khakis to rotate into my wardrobe. I’m hoping soon enough I can retry on all my old summer skirts and get back into wearing them. Pants get really dull and boring after a while. So I am motivated to keep going and see what else I can fit back into after long periods of time. I can’t wait to get back into my fabulous jeans and capris.
So lesson learned: you can see small differences with just a small weight loss. Every pound counts.
