Man! I have been reading about the troubles the travel industry has been having but I never really followed up by checking any trip prices. Tonight I decided to give it a whirl because I was on Facebook and they have this new application to mark all of the places you have been and all the places you plan to go. Well, I noticed I have covered most of the United States but haven’t really covered Europe or Asia.

So as you can imagine the wheels started turning in my head. I have always heard about how beautiful Thailand is especially the coastal area. Much to my surprise I found some gorgeous Accor Hotels for $44 USD a night in Thailand. Talk about cheap and they have some great features. They offer scuba diving lessons and trips to local botanical gardens. I love flowers and Asian lilies are some of my absolute favorites. I wish I was able to take another trip this year because right now because they are offering savings of up to 60% when you book online between between now and the end of June for trips between July 10 and September 30, 2009. Maybe next year I can get a trip in to Thailand. :)

Even though I do not have summer breaks now that I am an adult, I still think of summertime as the time to go on vacation. It seems that work tends to slow down during the summer which makes going on vacation now optimal. I don’t always like that though because it is so darn hot all over. In any case, I am in serious need of a good vacation. I have started packing for my vacation next month because I need something to look forward to. About 30 minutes ago, I was visiting the cruise website to check out the newest cruise ship which is like a floating island. I’m hoping that Mike and I enjoy cruising enough that we start alternating it with our Orlando vacations. We love Disney to pieces but with the new Harry Potter section opening at Universal Studios next year and Sea World expanding and building new attractions like Manta, it is hard to contain yourself to just one theme park over there. Plus Orlando is such a cheap vacation destination. I know it sounds pretty insane to say Orlando vacations are cheap but have you tried pricing a vacation to San Diego or San Francisco? I have and it was worse than a week at Disney. I haven’t even bothered to look at New York though I would love to go there. I’m just going to stick with Orlando and cruising at sea until I hit the jackpot or get a better paying job. I am content with the deals and discounts I can receive for a great vacation.

Yippee!  I drug out the suitcase last night and started throwing items into my suitcase this morning.  So far I’ve only gotten a few swimsuits and nightgowns packed but I hope to have more items like sunscreen and stuff packed later tonight.  I printed a few packing lists out this morning at work and plan to start going down them to see what we have and what I need to pick up at the store or online in the next couple of weeks.

I also am thinking about putting together my outfits for the trip.  I think getting an idea of what I might want to wear and piecing it together will help cut down on over packing.  I might even try it all on and take photos so I can see what can be mixed and matched.  This exercise should also help figure out where the holes are in my vacation wardrobe.  I know I have a huge hole with my women’s shoes. I managed to snag some great gladiator sandals that are comfortable but I only got them in silver and gold. I failed to buy the black when they were in stock and now I am missing black sandals. I also grabbed some great looking Puma tennis shoes last week and they should be arriving soon. I think if I can find the flat black sandals somewhere then I should be set. I am just really kicking myself over the black shoes right now.

I also have a last ditch effort to get my favorite swimsuit in a size and style that isn’t skimpy. I bought my normal size and well it is a little too skimpy for my tastes. Probably a couple of years ago I’d be ok with it but I’m feeling a tad bit more modest. Maybe that is the weight gain talking as well. In any case I need to run to the post office and put it in the mail so they can process my exchange. Wish me luck as the post office is just not my thing!

Man has this been one crazy year. I mean who would have thought last June that we would ever see gas prices under $4? I know I was worried and thought we’d be lucky to hit $3 again. But as the gas prices did go down, so did some other things that I know I wasn’t expecting – job losses, wage freezes, etc. On every message board I read, people are slowly starting to feel more optimistic and beginning to think about summer vacation. Some had an idea already and others are trying to think about what they want to do. There are a ton of tourist destinations “on sale” right now like Disney and Branson, Missouri. One thing I have seen mentioned more often this year than in previous years has been driving and staying in rv parks. Apparently, there are rv parks in almost every city and multiple parks in the popular tourist destinations and the rent for an rv spot is much cheaper than a hotel room for a night. I don’t know if I would recommend going out to buy an rv but if you have one or want to rent one this might be a cheap option to think about during your summer vacation planning.
