What to do in Houston? Why Visit a Gun Range!

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: Travel

So this morning was my first trip to a gun range.  I just recently held my first gun or guns now that we have 3 in the house but I’ve never tried to fire one.  So this morning we loaded the SUV and met some friends at the gun range. I wasn’t expecting much other than to test out my pink ear muffs and sunglasses while shooting off random shots in all directions. Suffice to say, I did much better than expected.  I’m not an expert on guns by any means but my favorite today was the 9mm Baretta.  I also shot a 9mm Glock, a 38 Bodyguard, and a 22 revolver.  I ended up with two cuts – one a major bleeder – thanks to the Glock and the Revolver so I won’t be shooting those again unless I have protective gloves. The revolver wasn’t terrible but let’s just hope you need to shoot at the side of a barn because accurate it was not.  The little 38 was just too little with too long of a pull.  Overall a good day because I was able to shoot the target between the eyes, through the heart, and shot off his penis a few times.  So if you plan on breaking into my house I would suggest a cup and armor, otherwise you are going down and it ain’t going to feel too well.

Now on to the fun part.  While we were there we noticed A TON of tourists.  Once you start thinking about it and looking into gun laws in other countries you understand why a place like that would have a ton of tourists popping off rounds.  We had a few Europeans next to us who were taking photos and recording their shooting (revolvers and a 9mm) with a Flip camera. We also had some Asians in business attire shooting off some pistols and assault rifles having the time of their life.  I probably wouldn’t have thought to suggest that to someone visiting the US or Texas for that matter but it makes sense. If you can’t experience something at home why not try it out on vacation right?  So next time you come to this great state, find a range, rent a lane and a gun, and shoot off some rounds.  I’m testing out the Tommy Gun next time we go. :)

Mickey Mouse is coming to Houston!

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: Travel

Ok so maybe he isn’t coming to Houston per se but he is coming with his best friends to Galveston, Texas for a little relaxation and fun. Today sources leaked the information that will be discussed in luncheon and presentation tomorrow morning here in Houston. Beginning in September 2012 the Disney Cruise Line will begin sailing the Disney Magic from the Galveston port! It was first reported on Local Station KHOU and their website.

This is fairly exciting news because Houston is a rather large city but our cruise choices have been limited to Royal Caribbean (not complaining here) and Carnival. Now with a third cruise line hanging out here we should see some price decreases and new sailing options. Plus maybe it will get the kids off of my beloved Royal Caribbean boat. Even if it doesn’t change who is sailing on which boat, it is exciting to have Disney characters and the Disney feeling so close to home. I’ve never even thought about sailing on the Disney Cruise Line because the cruise itself is fairly overpriced and I’d have to factor in excursions and airfare. Now with it just 45 minutes away it might be worth it to give it a try once. I’m interested in hearing the full announcement tomorrow to learn which ports the ship will be visiting. I’m sure it will be the usual Western Caribbean spots but I’m hoping for a different one or two – add in some variety.

Pole Dancing for Jesus – Seriously?

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: health

Yes you read that right. A group of women in Houston gather once a month at a local exercise studio specializing in pole dance workouts and they pole dance to Christian music.  The class is free if you bring in your church’s bulletin for the week.  I first heard about this Sunday night on the local Fox station and it seems to have started blowing up on the internet since then.

I have no problem exercising in a manner that makes it enjoyable and fun. Whether you are participating in Zumba, Strip Tease, or Pole Dancing I don’t really care. What I don’t quite like about this is the justification that these women use to take this class.  Pole dancing is bad unless you are doing it once a month at an exercise studio and listening to Christian rock music.  It seems hypocritical don’t you think?

I appreciate that this is allowing women of similar interests gather once a month. I also appreciate that this class is giving women more confidence in themselves and their body.  What I don’t like is that they are dragging Jesus into this. Why not just call it Christian Pole Dancing and do your routines to Christian music? It isn’t quite as offensive sounding but maybe people would look down on them if they used more generic terms.

Here is the original story on Fox.

Trapped!

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: General

Trapped! I am sitting here in the airport waiting and hoping I can get on a plane tonight. The hurricane is making its way through Houston right now and the airports are closed. Just my luck! This was just suppose to be a quick trip over – less than 8 hours but it might turn out to be much longer. Only problem is that I didn’t bring a bag and the Essence festival is this weekend so there probably aren’t any hotel rooms.

Trying to stay positive. I got my book and I’ve hunkered down. I just wish this darn airport had WIFI. WTF right?!

It is such a beautiful day here in Houston!

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: General

Wow! Today is what you would call perfect weather. It is nice and sunny today, no clouds in the sky, and I would put the high somewhere in the upper 70s with no humidity. Absolutely gorgeous. Had I known the day was going to be like this, I would have made plans with Mike to run over to the Zoo or Herman park and walk around feeding the ducks. I think I am going to check the forecast for tomorrow and if it will be like this off we go!

Right now I’m sitting outside on our patio set. We bought this set back in June during a summer sale at Sears. It is just a small bistro table and 2 chairs. I haven’t been able to use it because it has been sweltering hot. But today I decided to give it a try. I need some fresh air and a change of scenery. I have been battling depression for quite some time and lately it has gotten a little worse with me staying cooped up inside not wanting to go anywhere or see anything. A definite lack of fresh air and sunlight in my life.

So here I am sitting outside and just enjoying the weather and feeling better already. I don’t have any type of view but sometimes that is good. Luckily UT and A&M are playing right now so all of my neighbors are either at the games or out somewhere watching the games. I have absolute peace and quiet and nothing funky going on over on any of the neighbors balconies. Just a few weeks ago though it was a different story. LOL. I came home and was sitting at my dinner table having a quick snack and noticed my neighbor sitting on his balcony shaving his legs. Yes you really did just read that. A guy sitting on a balcony outside shaving with an electric razor. It was quite a sight to be seen that day.

So how is the weather in your neck of the woods? Is it a gorgeous fall day or are you seeing signs of winter already?
