Chick Lit Reviews: Interview with Candace Bushnell

Posted under Chick Lit by The Blonde Diaries on September 22nd, 2008 12:37 pm

After the news of two new Sex and the City spin-off books about Carrie in her high school days, I got super excited and headed over to YouTube to see if I could find any interviews with Candace Bushnell. I have never read any of her books nor even know what she looks like but I am very interested and thought an interview would be the best way to learn more about her and to see how she fits into the characters of Sex and the City. This interview is great because it has Candace talking about writing both Sex and the City and then Lipstick Jungle and how they are similar yet different. She also discusses the motivation behind writing both stories and how they fit with the trends and attitudes of the general public at the time. I highly recommend watching this short video if you are a fan of either books or television shows. I think I will check when Lipstick Jungle comes on television and try and start watching it as it sounds like an interesting story. Do you like either show? Have you read the book? Please let me know your thoughts and opinions in the form of a comment below. :)

It is not a Saturday until I watch

Posted under Disney, Entertainment by The Blonde Diaries on July 12th, 2008 10:59 am

When I was growing up my Saturday was not able to start until I finished watching all of my Saturday morning programs: Smurfs, Tom & Jerry, Tiny Toons, Saved by the Bell, and California Dreams. Usually I was done by 10 or 11 am. My parents had no issues with this because they could sleep in rather than get up at 8 with me to start my tv marathon and then once it was over we could do our chores or play outside.

Let me tell you I still have a little of this habit still in me even though there isn’t too much on Saturday mornings on ABC, CBS, FOX, and the CW that I like to watch but I refuse to leave my apartment before Hannah Montana is over. I don’t know what it is about this tween show but I love to watch it. I have to admit the past month or two has been bad on the repeats but never the less I will watch the same episode for the 4th or 5th time just because it is cute and I don’t want to start my day without tv. Mike has been really good about accepting this habit of mine. He actually gets up before me to play on his PS2 and then makes sure I’m up for 9:30 to ensure I’m up in time and has breakfast made by 10. I’m pretty appreciative of this. :)

Do you have any Saturday morning shows you have to watch??

The joy of being on vacation

Posted under Entertainment by The Blonde Diaries on July 3rd, 2008 11:25 pm

I just love being on vacation especially during working hours. Why? Because I can catch up on my trash tv. Today, I spend over half the day doing easy chores mixed in with watching all of the daytime court tv shows, family fued, and then Maury. Man there were some interesting people on tv today. The most memorable court tv case of the day was the lawsuit over a man’s amputated leg. Oh yes! You see the man with the amputated leg (knee down only) regained possession of his leg via the police after it was inadvertently auctioned off as part of a smoker - it was inside the smoker being “stored”. Well the guy who won the smoker wanted the leg back since it was “part” of the smoker and therefore his rightful property. Now I realize you maybe wondering a) what the heck is this leg, b) why was anyone trying to preserve it, and c) why would anyone want someone else’s leg. So I’ll answer as best as I can remember:
a) Apparently the poor guy was in an accident a few years ago and had to have his leg below the knee amputated. So the doctor helped preserve it for the guy. So yes it was flesh and bone (don’t worry there were no pics).
b) Well the guy was adamant about wanting to be cremated whole when the time came including this leg piece.
c) Because after the media got ahold of this story the guy was able to build a sort of tourist attraction where he made shirts with logos and was able to charge admission to see this “leg” and “smoker”. Well, without the leg he only had the smoker and it was only worth $3 for adults and $1 for children. Not quite the money maker he was imagining.

So at the end of the day, the man got to keep his own leg but had to pay the other guy $5k but I honestly can’t remember what for. Tomorrow should be another good day. It’s part two of who is my baby daddy on Maury (ie the results show). Can’t wait!

Space Saving Thought

Posted under General by The Blonde Diaries on May 6th, 2008 10:05 pm

I have never had a knack for decorating. I blame it on inheriting an analytical brain rather than an artistic brain. My brother actually has a fantastic artistic brain but I am digressing. So back to my thought last night.

I am in the middle of a major clean up and clean out. I haven’t really sat down and gone through anything since I moved into my apartment. That was 3 years ago and man oh man have things piled up on me. So right now I am a shredding, donating, cleaning machine. I actually feel really good when I can spend a few hours and sort through 2 or 3 bags worth of items and determine if I’m keeping, tossing, or donating.

Last night while I was cleaning, I started thinking about ways to cut down on the number of “furniture items” in my rooms. As I glanced at my tv I thought maybe buying a lcd mount might be a good space saver.

I don’t know too much about mounting a tv on the wall but the one I have is a fairly light-weight Samsung lcd from last Christmas. Its no larger than 20 inches so it shouldn’t be too hard. Plus there seems to be a large variety of mounts (sizes, shapes, brands) out there so probably buying a few to see what they look like would be the best thing. That way I could find one that fit my tv and looked sturdy enough to hang on the wall and then return the rest. I haven’t tried this before so is there anything I should be aware of?
