Tell Me Thursday – September 10, 2009

So yesterday I posted this photo for my weekly Wordless Wednesday meme. So now I’m going to tell you about it since it is…

So this photo is from the hair salon right before we headed over to the hotel to finish getting ready for the wedding. I had done a hair trial a few months earlier and my original style was more of a messy bun. That style was very tight and after wearing it for a few hours I decided it was not the style for me as the bobby pins started digging into my scalp. Ouch! So back to the drawing board I went.

I couldn’t find a photo of exactly what I wanted so I tried to find photos of fronts that I liked (ie bangs) and then described what I definitely didn’t want (slicked back, buns, french twitst, etc). I also had relatively short hair so my hair dresser instructed me to head to Sallys to get clip on extensions. So off I went the day before the wedding and ended up with a hair piece from the Paris Hilton collection in Paris Blonde which matched me fairly well.

Still not knowing exactly what I wanted, I just turned myself over to my hair dresser and 1 hair piece and 3 hours later I ended up with this masterpiece. It was nothing like I imagined but it was beautiful. It stayed the entire night with the help of a few extra bobby pins and just slid down a little but did not weigh me down or hurt. I think it took a good 30 minutes of me lying face flat on the bed to get the pins out at the end of the night but it was totally worth it.

So big props to Edward as he did a fabulous job. If you are in Houston go pay a visit to Marbella Spa & Salon.

2 hours, 1 page done, 2 more in progress

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: scrapbook

It has been quite some time since I last scrapbooked. In fact, I don’t think I’ve done any type of scrapbooking since 2005 (right before I moved to Houston). Tonight, I drug everything out of the closet and sat down to see what I might be able to get accomplished. You see, I have a sorority scrapbook started, a LSU batgirl scrapbook started, 2 Disney scrapbooks waiting to be started, a wedding scrapbook waiting, a honeymoon scrapbook waiting, and a “dating”/first 4 years in Houston scrapbook. Oh and a mini-scrapbook for all of my wedding showers. It really is a daunting task I will admit.

I decided to focus on the 2008 Disney scrapbook as I have quite a few photos already developed and ready to go. I also have the paper, stamps, stickers, etc ready. Since it takes a while to get creative with scrapbooking, I figure this would be the easiest one to start with and then as the creative juices start flowing I’ll move over to the honeymoon and wedding books since those are at least to me more important. With all of the books I figure I’ll start with a few basic pages and then add to them later – either more pages or more embellishments.

So tonight, after 2 hours of work, I have 1 page completed and 2 more “laid” out on the page but not glued down yet. I forgot how time consuming it is to cut photos down, lay them out, and then design the “frames” around the photos. Someone help me when I finally do get in the mood for the extras! It will be 2 hours and no pages done.

    A fun wedding idea

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: Wedding

With my wedding quickly approaching, I am working on wrapping up the final details and making the final payments.  It has been such a huge relief to write those checks or punch in that credit card number this week and cross things off my to-do list.   Looking back, I have to say I think I was most excited about the wedding in the inital stages of planning and I was much more creative with my wedding ideas.  I wish I would have kept that spirit up a little more towards the end.

There was one idea that I had from going to a wedding for one of Mike’s close friends.  The couple decided to rent a photobooth for their wedding guests to take photos in.  Once you took your photos you were to pick the best one and glue it to a scrapbook and leave your message to the couple near it.  It was such a great idea and one that you wouldn’t think about unless someone else did it at an event you attended.  I liked it because it made the guest book more personal and you could actually see your guests.  I totally forgot about it until after I was at my budget and tired of planning.  If you are in the early stages of planning I totally recommend thinking about it.

If you have never heard of renting a photobooth for your event a quick google search will provide all the information you need.  I found Portland photo booth rentals to be a pretty good source in describing how you might want to use the rental service for your event, the length of time you might want to have it for, as well as what type of photos you will receive – digital or print.  Our friend’s did the normal photo printing, 4 photo strips at their wedding and provided scissors to cut the photo out to include in their scrapbook and then Mike and I kept the other 3 photos.   Most companies come out and do the set up and clean up of the booth for you so that you don’t have to worry about toting the entire machine around with you that day and figuring out how to set it up and then put it back in your vehicle.  For more information I’d also recommend checking out the about Portland photobooth services page even if you are not from Portland or near Portland because it will give you a good idea on questions to ask when you call your local rental service as well as why having a photobooth might be a good and fun idea at your next event.
