Mike and I woke up pretty early today. We quickly fell into our morning weekend routine: Mike playing video games in the guest bedroom and me reading in bed. Around 9:15 I finished my book and decided to face the day. Since it was so early I told Mike to get dressed as we were going to the zoo. We haven’t been in a few months and I recently read that there are some new lions living at the zoo as well as a new jaguar cage.
We took our normal route and visited Toby, the red panda, then off to say hi to the meerkats, the giraffes, and the elephants. We continued over to the big cats area and since it was a breezy, cloudy day all of the cats were out and about. It was really nice because alot of the time when we go they are all hiding and sleeping but we saw each and every one of them. We finished with the cats and went to visit the bears before deciding we were hungry and needed to wrap it up. Typically, we hit the monkey area last because it is on the way out and Mike loves the orangutans. Halfway through we saw that the mandrills were out walking around. We have a boy and 2 girls. Mike and I have always seen them on the ground, never up on ropes but sure enough we saw a female had made it up a rope and was hanging out. Right as we were turning away Mike pointed out that the male was climbing the fence and then the next thing you know they were both on the ground going at it. Animal porn. I know I was at the zoo and when you mix males and females together you run the risk of having that happen but since it hadn’t happened in the 4 years Mike and I have been going to the zoo I was just thrown off guard. It was one of those times when you are in such shock over it that all you can do is laugh and watch. Luckily it didn’t last too long but it was pretty hilarious.
After that we called it a day and went for some Greek food before coming home and taking a nap. The adventure just wore us out. LOL

Every year the Houston Ballet hosts the Nutcracker Market at the George R Brown convention center in downtown Houston. This year the market will be held on November 12 through 15th with the following hours of operation: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
If you have never been to the market you should plan a trip this weekend as it is a real treat and will get you into the holiday spirit. I went last year for the first time and will be returning with my friend and her mother this year. I’m hoping to pick up a few homemade holiday decorations as well as the famous spaghetti sauce made by an order of nuns. Apparently the sauce is so good if you don’t hit that booth first then it will sell out.
Tickets are on sale at Randalls and there is a $1 off coupon floating around on the internet that you can use there as well. If I can find the site my mom printed it from a few weekends ago I will happily post it for everyone.

Books
I am an avid reader. I just love to get lost in a good story and let my imagination run wild with it. Imagining the scenery, the characters, the surroundings, a good book is your key to forgetting everything going on around you.
As much as I love a good book, my closet is suffering from spending money on books and not new clothes. So I’m having to make a small shift in my budget but I don’t want to give up reading. So today, while I was out and about, I passed by a public library branch here in Houston. I quickly turned in and decided that I had put off getting a library card long enough. In fact, it has been a year since I printed the application form at work and filled it out – I found that application last week while cleaning my desk at work. LOL
I walked out with 2 books when I was only planning to walk in and get my card as I didn’t have a list of books to look for but I remembered 1 title and found another book while I was looking for the 1 I could remember. I loved the check out process – just go to a computer and scan the books yourself and print off a receipt with the due dates. Totally awesome and pain free. I can’t wait to read these and then bring back my actual book list so I can complete all of my book challenges before the 1st of the year. Saving some space in the apartment, some money from borrowing books, and some trees. How awesome is that?

Wow! Today is what you would call perfect weather. It is nice and sunny today, no clouds in the sky, and I would put the high somewhere in the upper 70s with no humidity. Absolutely gorgeous. Had I known the day was going to be like this, I would have made plans with Mike to run over to the Zoo or Herman park and walk around feeding the ducks. I think I am going to check the forecast for tomorrow and if it will be like this off we go!
Right now I’m sitting outside on our patio set. We bought this set back in June during a summer sale at Sears. It is just a small bistro table and 2 chairs. I haven’t been able to use it because it has been sweltering hot. But today I decided to give it a try. I need some fresh air and a change of scenery. I have been battling depression for quite some time and lately it has gotten a little worse with me staying cooped up inside not wanting to go anywhere or see anything. A definite lack of fresh air and sunlight in my life.
So here I am sitting outside and just enjoying the weather and feeling better already. I don’t have any type of view but sometimes that is good. Luckily UT and A&M are playing right now so all of my neighbors are either at the games or out somewhere watching the games. I have absolute peace and quiet and nothing funky going on over on any of the neighbors balconies. Just a few weeks ago though it was a different story. LOL. I came home and was sitting at my dinner table having a quick snack and noticed my neighbor sitting on his balcony shaving his legs. Yes you really did just read that. A guy sitting on a balcony outside shaving with an electric razor. It was quite a sight to be seen that day.
So how is the weather in your neck of the woods? Is it a gorgeous fall day or are you seeing signs of winter already?
