This entry is part 6 of 7 in the series Think Thin Thursdays

I am excited. I finally have a few minutes to sit down and participate in Think Thin Thursday. The past few weeks have been a struggle with work because for some reason things heat up at the end of the week and I miss out on my end of the week memes.  So, I haven’t officially stepped on the scale for this week.  I did pop on this morning but since I am using my Wii Fit as the offical scale and weighing in at 10pm each week I will have to update later.  From what I could see this morning, I am still at 153.  That isn’t terrible considering it is busy season and I am only able to Wii Fit for 30 minutes a day Monday – Thursday and hit the actual gym on the weekends.  So I can’t complain too much.  I have been bringing lunch and dinner instead of ordering out and that has helped too.

So my goal for this week is to try 1 new recipe.  I haven’t been able to cook lately and I am getting bored with Lean Cuisine on a daily basis and some of my older recipes like crawfish etouffee.  I’m not sure what exactly I will make but I want to try 1 totally new recipe that is healthy and will keep me on my weight loss journey.

Now Bridgette wants us to visit Tyson.com and pick one item that we would use to incorporate into a healthy and quick meal for our family.  Luckily, I discovered Tyson refrigerated meals a few months ago so this one will be easy for me.  My family favorite is the Beef Steak Tips in Bourbon Sauce served over brown rice.  The whole thing with the rice is about 6 Weight Watcher points.  Not too shabby and it tastes really good.  The whole thing takes about 15 minutes to make – 8 minutes for the meat to reheat and then 7 minutes to cook your brown rice.  Talk about quick and easy!

Not sure if you have been cruising down the snack aisle at the grocery store but Hostess and Weight Watchers seem to be duking it out to claim the title of best low-calorie twinkie. Yup! The folks at Weight Watchers have developed, produced, and are selling a Weight Watcher branded Twinkie that is just 1 point. The folks at Hostess have come out with 100-calorie packs for Twinkies (and a few other dessert items) which weigh in at about 2 weight watcher points.

So how do they taste? Well, I have tried them both and I will report that they are not quite like the original. It seems like they have more cake than filling so they are a tad drier than “real Twinkies”. The cake part is pretty soft and matches the taste of an actual twinkie which is nice. I will say the Hostess Twinkie tastes a little better than the Weight Watcher Twinkie and I think it is because the filling on the Weight Watcher version must have a different ingredient. Plus Hostess is the original creator of the Twinkie.

So that is my Twinkie roundup. I liked both products overall and depending on my points allowance I can go back and forth between the two when I need to handle a Twinkie craving.

I have the worst time sleeping. I am never able to fall asleep quickly and normally I toss and turn all night long. I am not really into taking medicines so I have never tried a prescription or over the counter drug to treat my sleeping issues. Well, I noticed in the past week that I have been sleeping better and I wasn’t sure what the difference was until I was chatting with Mike on the drive home from Baton Rouge. It dawned on me that in the past week, Mike and I have exercised on the Wii Fit for 30 minutes each night right before bed. So the increase in exercise has increased the quality of my sleep. I am waking up feeling much better and my body is starting to limber up and tone up thanks to this awesome game. I haven’t seen too large of a weight loss but it’s only been a week. I can feel a difference so I know it will work. I just need to keep up the 30 minutes routine and add in some actual gym time on the treadmill so I can lose naturally with diet and exercise not with diet pills and be healthier in general.

I realize there are many people out there that are a tad cold and ice cream may not be on their minds, but Baskin Robbins is offering a free scoop of their new BRight Choices ice cream on January 15, 2009 to people who have gym memberships.  What you have to do is drive to your nearest Baskin Robbins and show your gym membership card and you will receive a free scoop of new ice creams which are designed to help keep you on track.  The new flavors are low on calories, fat, and sugar content and cover the usual vanilla and chocolate varieties but also have some fun ones like pineapple coconut and raspberry chip. Check out the Baskin Robbins website for more information on their seven new flavors.

So if you are out and about tomorrow stop by your local Baskin Robbins between 11am and 10pm to pick up your free scoop.

The Not-So-BlogI lost track of what week I am in now.  I’ve been a little sporadic in my blogging for Think Thin Thursday meme but with a new year, I have a new outlook and a resolution to be more organized and on top of things.  So last time I checked in, I think it was right before Christmas, after my illness and I was weighing in around 152.  This morning when I stepped on the scale I wasn’t too surprised to see myself at 153.5/154.  I have been bloated lately and drank a little last night in celebration of the New Year and had alot of pizza.  So no surprise that I’ve gained a little in the water weight department.  I don’t want to keep the scale creeping up so I’ve decided to challenge myself to work out 6 days a week for 30 minutes a day in January.  This is part of the Sunshine Rewards forum’s January Exercise Challenge so I hope to do well and encourage others to keep their goals and get healthier in the new year.

Over on the Not-So-Blog-Blog who is bringing Think Thin Thursdays to us, Bridgette is asking everyone to journal their New Years Resolutions.

Well, my resolutions have not changed since a few days ago when I wrote about them.  I’ll rewrite them though because I hear when you write things down they stick a little better and I could use that LOL.

  1. Be more budget conscious and save more money so I can buy a house!
  2. Lose weight and be more healthy overall!
  3. Be more organized and on top of things!

So there you have it.  A very short list of my resolutions.  All are very doable and are not major ordeals to accomplish so I think I am in good shape.
