I have been waiting to join this group for a few weeks now. I came across 5 minutes for books one day when I was searching for books to add to my reading list. I am running short on books to read and need some recommendations so that I don’t spend a fortune on books I do not know much about and find out later that they suck. So 5 minutes for books seems to be a great place to start. On the fourth Tuesday of every month, participants are asked to tell everyone in a blog post about the books on their nightstand that they are wanting to read that month. Basically what are you reading, what do you want to read, and how did you pick these books. Sounds right up my alley.
Of course this month I am short on books and am in process of finding some cheaply on amazon or half.com to purchase. I have these two books on my nightstand and I hope to finish them in the upcoming weeks:
1. The Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot - Cabot is the author of the Princess Diaries series and I just discovered that she wrote chick lit as well. I picked this book because the title jumped out at me from the shelf at Barnes and Noble. The book is about a recent graduate who is going to England for a month to visit her boyfriend but unfortunately she does not know how to keep her mouth shut and gets a few people in hot water instead of helping them. So her summer plans change just a little and she also finds out she still has a 50 page thesis to write to graduate. Can you say surprise?! It sounded fun and light and it hasn’t disappointed so far.
2. Twilight by Stephenie Myers - After hearing about the rave reviews on the book and the chatter around the movie adaption, I started to have my interest peaked by this series. I am not sure how much I will like Vampire love stories but I want to give it a try. I like the idea that this is a series as I love finding series or authors that I enjoy reading as it leads me to other books and takes up some of my reading time with good books.

I have been reading up a storm lately even with the untimely trip to Pittsburgh and moving apartments. I have finished some great books and I can’t wait to share my opinions of them with you. I have been reading quite a few of Cecelia Ahern’s books, most recently If You Could See Me Now and No Place Like Here and will be finishing Helen Fielding’s (Bridget Jones Diary), Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination by the end of the week. I’m not sure what will be my next book to read. I need to go pay a visit to Amazon.com and see what books are out and see if there are any used book deals over there. Keep an eye out for some new reviews and if you have a book to recommend please let me know!

I just finished reading Sophie Kinsella’s latest book Remember Me? last week. Like all of Ms. Kinsella’s books, I found myself not wanting to put the book down until it was over. This was also the first book in a long while that I did not want the ending to be spoiled so I didn’t flip to the last few pages to see how the book ended.
Remember Me? is a book that follows Lexi Smart, a hard working Director at a Carpet Manufacturer, who happens to have an accident. As a result of the accident, Lexi spent five days in a coma and woke up with selective amnesia. Lexi could not remember the last three years of her life! She couldn’t remember anything about her husband or her drive to the top of her department. Lexi also couldn’t remember anything about her personality change and quite frankly, once she began piecing the puzzle together, didn’t like the person she had become in those three years.
Had Lexi been the person she had become in the missing three years of her life, I don’t think I would have enjoyed this book at all. Seeing the old Lexi learning about her new self through the eyes of others allowed you to root for Lexi to figure out the missing pieces and return to who she was deep down inside. I don’t want to spoil the book so I will not tell you what happened but I will say that you must read this book if you love chick lit. It isn’t as light and fluffy as other books but at the same time, the book does not trivialize the situation and still has you wanting to find out what happens.
Does Lexi ever remember her husband? Does Lexi regain lost friendships? Does Lexi remember and reassume her old role as a Director? Does Lexi become the person she wants to be?
You can only find out the answers to these questions by reading the book!

Last time I posted I was just about to finish Chasing Harry Winston by Laura Weisberger. I had been trying to read that book for a few months and just couldn’t find the time or energy to really dive into it. I am happy to say that the ending fit the book well and I was very pleased with it. I felt the book could go two ways: a quick, sappy ending that felt contrived and didn’t flow with the rest of the book or a slower, less sappy but more meaningful ending that fit with the rest of the storyline. Luckily, the latter was the way the ending went and left me happy as well as the characters.
So this week, I decided to move onto the new Sophie Kinsella book, Remember Me? as I have been waiting to receive it from my book club and I finally received it. I have made it to Chapter 6 in just a couple of days and I am really enjoying it. If you like the television show Samantha Who? I think you will like this book. Both stories have similar premises - a young girl who after an accident has selective amnesia. It has been comical at points and I can’t wait to see what happens throughout the book and to see if her memory comes back. It shall be interesting.

It feels like this book review is way over due. I have been trying to read this book for two months now and just was not able to get into the right mindset to read it until now. Chasing Harry Winston is Lauren Weisberger’s latest book. Like her previous books, The Devil Wears Prada and Everyone Worth Knowing this book focuses on young, single, professional women working in New York City. Of course, they have fabulous jobs and what seems like a very high income.
It wasn’t the characters that led to the difficulty I faced when trying to read this book. The main issue was that there is three main characters and three story lines intertwined into one book and the plot is fairly slow because Weisberger had to build the characters’ backgrounds for you so that you could understand their feelings and actions later in the book. This book reminds me alot of Cocktail for Three which also had three main characters with three different story lines.
The book follows the lives of three young women - Emmy, Leigh, and Adrianna - who are all different when it comes to relationships - you have the girl who can’t commit, the girl who wants to commit but her man doesn’t, and then the girl who feels she has to commit but isn’t happy. Towards the beginning of the book the three vow to change their lives and see where it takes them and this is where the story really starts to pick up and you get sucked into the book. You cheer for them and commiserate with them as they face their various challenges. I have not finished the book but I hope in the end they are all happy and find what is right for them and I am left happy. I hope to finish tonight. If you are looking for a chick lit book to read this has been a pretty good read.
