The Sookie Stackhouse Series – Thoughts (Round 1)

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: Books

I got hooked on the Sookie Stackhouse series earlier this year and have just completed the 5th book of the series. I wasn’t sure what I was going to think of the series when I first heard about it but one of my coworkers loved it and another one was starting to read the series. So after some thought I decided to check out the first two books at the library and start an unofficial work book club for the series. LOL

I thought I’d write some thoughts on the series since I am about halfway through it. It should be interesting to see what I think after I am done with the lastest book which is coming out in May. I’m not sure the best format for this but I am thinking I’ll just do bulleted comments.

~ The mystical creatures are kind of cool but I am just wondering how many we really need in this series and if there is anything left.  Vampires, telepaths, witches, wiccans, fairies, maenads, demons, shapeshifters, werewolves, were-other animals, etc.  Some stay around and some go away.  Since I’ve never read this genre before these characters just seem like overkill in the series.  Let’s just say there is no need for any hair loss treatments with the amount of hair some of these creatures have.

~Why oh why can’t 2 Vampires fall in love and live happily ever after.  They do in Twilight and in the Vampire Diaries series.  I am just wondering what is going to happen when Sookie is 70.  Will the Vampires still love her?

~ How does one become a vampire in this series?  It has yet to be clearly explained.  Sometimes it is hinted that it is from a bite and other times it seems like it is passing blood between humans and vampires but it is never clearly stated!

~Bill and Eric.  Sigh.  I loved Bill in book one.  I know he did Sookie wrong but I didn’t think it was as terrible as my coworkers are making it out to be.  I mean they HATE Bill but I can only think of other true love stories and how it all works out in the end.  I think Bill is sorry and loves, really loves, Sookie so why can’t they just be together.  And Eric just seems wrong for her.

~And what is up with her brother Jason.  Is he or isn’t he a shifter.  My coworkers said no, book 5 seems to hint that is is partially but again it isn’t too clear.  Oh and I think something is up with Tara.  I just know she’s something but I don’t know what since everyone in this book has to have “something”. LOL

Ok that is it for now.  I’m back to Stephanie Plum for this weekend and I need to see how she is going to get herself out of the current pickle and see if she and Joe ever get married.

This entry is part 9 of 10 in the series What are You Reading on Mondays

Hello and happy Monday! It is another quick Monday and I only have one thing on my list that I have checked off for work. Eek! I also am mentally preparing a to-do list for chores around the apartment this week since Mike has been doing most of them for the past few months while I’ve been sick and I feel like I need to “pay” him back for it. So while he’s in Beaumont Monday-Friday I think I’ll work on things to make the weekend easier. I did a little bit of reading last week to help relax after a long day at work. I’m excited about the progress I’m making on a few series and hope to have them finished in the next month!

    1. Visions of Sugar Plums ~ Janet Evanovich
    2. To the Nines ~ Janet Evanovich
    3. Dead in Dallas ~ Charlaine Harris

    Are you a book spoiler?

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: Books

My coworker and I are reading the Sookie Stackhouse series (Dead Until Dark, etc). She is going on to book 4 while I am finishing up book 2.  Our other coworker just brought in the rest of the series for us to borrow and immediately I began reading the backs of all of the books to see what was going to happen.  I also took the last book and started flipping it to see if any characters appear or look missing.  I was soon labeled a book spoiler.  I didn’t share what I was looking for or found out by flipping the books but nonetheless I was given this label.

Are you a book spoiler? Do you like reading ahead in a book to see what happens?  I love to do that.  I also love to grab the next book in the series to see how it begins and ends.  I guess you can say that I don’t like suspense or mystery.  Maybe it is the Type A and Control Freak personality peaking out.

In any case, I don’t feel like I’ve spoiled the books for myself.  In fact, I find them more interesting once I see what is going to happen and I want to know how the story “gets” there.  I cannot wait to get home from work tonight so I can finish my current book.  My only wish was that I had an Amish fireplace that I could turn on and curl up in front of a fire to read my book. It is freezing here in Houston (by my standards) and I would love to have a nice warm fire to warm up in front of with hot chocolate and a good book. Maybe in my next house I can get a fireplace.

    Happy reading!

This entry is part 8 of 10 in the series What are You Reading on Mondays

Hello and happy Monday! This day is just flying by. I made it into work on time (6 days in a row) and before I knew it, it was noon already and I hadn’t gotten much of anything done. EEK! This day needs to slow down. Though the faster it goes, the quicker I can get home, and possibly read a little more. :)

    Books completed last week:

    1. Seven Up ~ Janet Evanovich
    2. Hard Eight ~ Janet Evanovich
    3. Dead until Dark ~ Charlaine Harris

    Books I am currently reading:

    1. Dead in Dallas ~ Charlaine Harris
    2. Prada and Prejudice by Mandy Hubbard

    Up Next:

    1. Club Dead ~ Charlaine Harris
    2. Visions of Sugar Plums ~ Janet Evanovich
    3. Full Bloom ~ Janet Evanovich

I am hoping to have a productive reading week.  The books I am currently reading and have up next are all library books and they are due on the 12th.  I think I can get another one finished off before then and then I can return 4 and renew 4.
