Home decorating

Posted under General by Catherine on August 19th, 2008 12:45 pm

Some where along the way, I missed the home decorating gene and now I am trying to find my way especially as I get ready to register for my wedding and try to decide how I want to decorate our new home.  I have my master bedroom decorated fairly well as far as bedding goes but I waited too long to decide on curtains and valances as Crate and Barrel has discountinued the pattern and color so I think I will start looking at custom valances.  I found this pretty valance design on Priority Windows and think it might look nice is a cream or gold color to go with my sapphire blue bedding.

If you are in the same boat as me and need help with decorating, especially windows, visit Priority Windows. They specialize in custom window treatments and have over 471 fabrics to choose from so you are bound to find something that will look fabulous with the items you already have. If you do choose something this month, there is a coupon on custom window treatments where you can save up to $60 during August. It might be worth a visit if you are in a shopping and decorating mode.

Attention LSU Texans: License Plates are here!!

Posted under General by Catherine on August 19th, 2008 9:50 am

When I opened my inbox this morning at work I was expecting the usual overnight “unimportant” emails to be sitting in my box. I was right on a few counts - Continental, American Express, church youth group - but then I saw the subject line in my LSU Houston Alumni chapter email and got all giddy and excited. You see the one thing I was sad about when moving over here to Houston (other than leaving my family behind) was that I was going to lose my LSU license plates. I have had my plates since I was 16 and well it was quite a big deal when I bought my car last year and had to register it in Texas and receive the standard, boring, plain plates. Did I mention I didn’t like the standard Texas plates?? lol It just didn’t seem fair that Texas graduates could keep their plates and I had to give mine up.

Well it seems like more LSU alums felt the same way I did because we now have an approved LSU Plate for the state of Texas!!!

LSU Plate

You can preorder your plate at the LSU Houston Alumni Chapter’s website (and probably one of the other 7 chapters in the great state of Texas) for $30.  We just need 1,900 people to order plates and they will start being made!  I can’t wait to get mine.  Yippee!!!!!

The Sproutwells got a dog!

Posted under Entertainment, diet by Catherine on August 18th, 2008 11:17 pm

Last week I shared a fun video I found on YouTube featuring the Sproutwells - a family of vegetables and fruits. I found a follow up video today about the Sproutwells continuing their story and this time they have added another member to their family, a dog named Phyto. I have been enjoying these fun videos as they remind me of the cartoons we all watched growing up. I think I like Ruby, the daughter, the most because she is trying to be fashionable and trendy. The scene with her on the red carpet holding Phyto was quite funny because you know the creators are making fun of those silly Hollywood girls. I hope you enjoy this week’s episode of the Sproutwells and that it makes you chuckle just a little. When you are done check out freshfunds.com and find out how you can earn points for prizes such as the Wii fit by just being healthy and making smart food choices. Don’t forget to pass this week’s episode along to your readers.

Disney’s Ultimate Broadway Contest

Posted under Disney, Entertainment by Catherine on August 18th, 2008 10:56 pm

Are you a fan of Disney? How about Broadway? If you answered yes to either I have a contest for you to enter. You have to act quick as the contest ends on August 31st. The contest is being sponsored by the Disney Company and is open to all legal residents of the United States who are over 18 years of age. So what do you win? How about an all expense paid trip (ie air fare and hotel accommodations) to New York City for 4 people to see 3 of Disney’s most popular movies on the Broadway stage. You will see The Lion King, Mary Poppins, and The Little Mermaid and receive a back stage tour of the New Amsterdam Theatre which is the home of Mary Poppins. It really sounds like a neat contest to win and it is so simple to enter. Just visit the Contest home page here and enter your contact information (email and name) and you are all set. Good luck to everyone who enters!

Navigating Disney Rides: Space Mountain

Posted under Disney, Travel by Catherine on August 18th, 2008 8:19 pm
This entry is part 7 of 7 in the series Navigating WDW Rides

Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom has 3 famous “mountain” rides.  I have already posted a video about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad - a fun roller coaster themed around a runaway train in the wild west.  The second mountain I would like to call attention to is Space Mountain.  Space Mountain is another roller coaster ride and is located in Tomorrowland.  The roller coaster is completely inclosed and is completely dark - similar to the Aerosmith Rock ‘n Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  I am a fan of Space Mountain.  It is a pretty cheesy/tame roller coaster but I am not a roller coaster buff so it works for me.  The ride isn’t super fast and does not do any special things like flip or roll while you are on it.  The main thing you need to worry about is keeping your hands inside the ride at all times.  This is not a coaster that you can hold your arms up above your head or to your sides as there is track all around you and you really don’t want to lose a limb.  If you have a member of your group afraid of the dark this might not be a good ride to take them on.

I found this video on YouTube to share.  To be totally honest, the quality isn’t the best but this is a hard ride to video tape because it is completely dark.  This video version is of the ride with the lights on.  I thought this would be helpful to demonstrate that there are no loops or barrel rolls in the ride as well as to drill down my point of keeping your hands inside the ride.  If you have someone nervous about riding this ride, this video will help ease their fears.
