A) if you picked 1971 (#4) you are correct! Walt Disney World officially opened to the public on October 1, 1971. At the time the only park up and running was the Magic Kingdom. The other 3 parks would follow in later years.

B) If you picked Lake Buena Vista (#2) you are a winner. A fun factoid: Lake Buena Vista is a Disney-governed municipality about 20 miles southwest of Orlando.

C) Believe it or not but Christmas Day (#4) is actually the busiest day of the year at WDW. I was a tad surprised that July 4th was not the busiest day but that just shows I’m not always right about everything

D) Man I underestimated this one. Disney’s Animal Kingdom (#2) is by far the largest WDW theme park world wide. This theme park comes in at over 500 acres of land making it 40 times larger than the Magic Kingdom, 40% larger than Epcot. For further comparisons, Disneyland is just 160 acres and Toyko Disneyland comes in at 115 acres. I guess I should look into some better shoes before our trip!

A) 2. There are approximately 2,880 rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort today. If you picked 3 you are close. The original plans for Pop Century was to have the Legendary years and the Classic years with each one having 2,880 rooms for a total of 5,760 rooms. To date the Legendary years have been abandoned and were never serviceable to the public. We can only hope Disney goes back and finishes these rooms as this resort is fabulous.

B) 3. The Contemporary Resort is the only resort that the monorail drives through. The monorail drives to the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian as well.

C) 2. There are 3 All-Star Resorts at WDW: Music, Sports, and Movies. Movies is the most recently built of the All Stars while Music is the most recently renovated. You can’t go wrong staying at any of the 3 resorts.

D) 1. Disney’s Beach Club features Stormalong Bay which is a mini-waterpark at this resort. The pool features slides, waterfalls, and a lazy river. This is also the only pool on property where DVC members cannot pool hop to. So if you want to try this pool out grab a ressie at either Beach Club or Yacht Club.

E) 2. Pop Century resort features the ever popular Tie-dyed cheesecake to help you feel more in tune with the 60s and 70s theming of the resort. Pop on over to the food court and grap a slice on your next trip. You won’t be disappointed.

1. True! You can find each of these things as you ride on your runaway mine car in Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Take a closer look next time you are on the ride. In total you will pass a volcanic pool, a 30 foot geyser, experience an earthquake, a flash flood and an avalanche! That is a lot in just one ride.

2. False! Ear Force One actually is the name of the Mickey-head shaped hot air balloon that floating over Walt Disney World every now and then. It is over 100 feet tall and 330 pounds when uninflated and no basket attached. Wow that is one big mouse!

3. True! Phil Simms spoke this famous line after winning the Superbowl in 1987. It has gone on to become sort of a tradition with the Superbowl MVP to speak these lines and turn into a commercial for WDW.

4. False! While I’m sure Mrs. Disney had some fabulous ideas, Disney World was not started as a result of a suggestion she made to Walt. The quote actually is “I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing – it was all started by a mouse.” With the way Mickey is plastered all over I don’t think this quote will ever be true ;)

5. False! Even though it is the ride 3 hit movies were based off of, Spaceship Earth is officially the most popular ride at WDW. (Spaceship Earth is the large golf ball looking thing at Epcot in case you didn’t know the official name of the attraction like I didn’t back in 06).
