Wedding Update: Another Large Check and a Honeymoon update

After tasting many different cakes, fillings, and icings I have finally decided on a cake baker for the wedding and mailed the deposit this weekend. I am very excited as this baker (Barbara at More Than Cakes in Houston) I met with two weeks ago was super friendly and took quite a bit of time to explain everything to my mother and I. She also brought out just about every different type of cake and filling for my mother and I to try unlike some of the other places I visited. So I can now relax a little bit until October 4th when I go dress shopping. I am very scared about that but figure that it might give me a good kick in the pants to get serious on Weight Watchers. I finally got serious in the gym with running but the weight watchers seriousness needs to kick in asap.

I also have to report that I gave up on the travel agent I contacted not too long ago to help with the honeymoon. I met her at the Houston Bridal Extravaganza and had a lovely long talk with her and it seemed that she would have been a great help in planning my honeymoon vacation. Well, I emailed her exactly one month ago last Wednesday and had not heard from her at all. I emailed her again on Wednesday to see what was going on and again nothing so I officially gave up on her Saturday night and booked my cruise myself through Royal Caribbean’s website and included airfare in the booking. So we are officially going on the Mediterranean cruise next July to Italy, Croatia, Greece, and Turkey. :)

Brides - have you thought about a wedding website?

Technology is ever changing and with that comes the ever changing ways we can communicate with our friends and family. I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do when I first started planning my wedding because all of my friends and family are out of state. I decided to dedicate a small portion of this blog to my wedding planning updates and thoughts as well as creating a website that will have all of the pertinent information that our guests will need when they come in for the wedding next year such as driving directions, hotels to stay at, and things to do.

If you are getting married and are in a similar situation, you can easily create your own wedding website for not too large of an expense. Most web hosting companies charge $6-$7 a month and you receive your domain and server space to upload the files you want on your website. To get started check out this web hosting rating site which will give you the skinny on the most popular web hosting companies out there before you commit to a particular host. Once you pick your web hosting company, this article might be of use to you as it goes over the tips you will want to consider when you are choosing your domain name (ie website address). The site is very helpful in getting you started with your own website and it really is a great way to communicate with your guests. As always if you need help drop a comment and I will be glad to help get you going!

Another Wedding Check!

Whew! I was stuck in training all day today at work and was unable to check my email. I was waiting for the last floral quote from my meetings last Friday and was hoping that this would be the end of my floral quest. My mother and I met with a really nice lady at the end of the day Friday and she seemed to be on the same page as we were with what I wanted and was envisioning. The only hiccup was that apparently when you meet with florists they take down your ideas and then go look up the prices and come back with a quote via email. I was nervous that this florist who we liked so much would not be within our budget but I got my quote today and she came in under our budgeted number! I can officially request a contract, put down the deposit this week, and check florist off my wedding checklist. I am so excited.

All I have left to tackle is the cake (one last appointment to go to) and Mike has DJ and Limo on his checklist and we are good until I have to try on dresses in October. It is such a relief to have this stuff done so early in the process.

What a weekend!

I usually am not too happy to see the weekend end but I am so worn out I am sorta looking forward to going to training this coming up week. I could use a slower pace and just sitting around not too worried about what I am doing and what I need to do.

This weekend I spent Thursday afternoon and all day Friday driving around Houston meeting with wedding vendors and can I tell you I am worn out! Here in Houston, everyone is spread out so you can’t just hit up vendor after vendor. You have to strategically plan when you meet with whom because no one is located near one another and you have traffic to contend with. It was very interesting nevertheless and I have a story or two to retell later this week when i catch up on some missed sleep.

A Small Wedding Update

I didn’t realize that I haven’t given any wedding planning updates recently. I have a few things that I am hoping to get knocked off the wedding planning checklist this week starting with flowers, centerpieces, bridesmaids, and possibly a wedding cake baker/decorator. It should be a busy end of the week but at the same time really fun. My mother and I have appointments with two local florists and one cake baker. I have another one I am trying to squeeze an appointment in with so wish me luck.

I have 3 bridesmaids committed and I need to contact the last 2. Everyone is out of town so unfortunately, I am having to do all of my asking via email or phone calls which seems so impersonal to me. Maybe I will send cards and a small gift out in the mail later this week to personalize things and give everyone an early thanks.

Last week, I received my order from TheKnot.com which included a few “sample” centerpieces and a “sample” bridesmaid gift. I really liked the bridesmaid gift and the centerpieces - well 2 came out nicely and the third was hideous so I am sending it back and ordering one size up to see if that is the difference. I hope it is because I really don’t want to worry about things like this.

bridesmaid gift which will be filled with day of items we might need and personalized with everyone’s name:
bridesmaid bag

Centerpieces:
triple Did not come with the greenery :(
singlefavor the first one is full sized and the second is “favor sized” to fit on the tall tables.

More updates to come at the end of the week!
