Classy vs. Klassy

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: General

Not sure about you, but for me there is a huge difference in “classy”. There is Classy with a C and Classy with a K. Classy is the standard definition of classy but classy with a K is more of a trashy person thinking that they are being classy. Case in point, Jersey Shore’s Angelina. If you were able to catch the season premiere on Thursday, she was screaming in the car on the way to the club that she was “Trying to be Classy.”  In reality, she was as far from classy as can be. She is the epitome of being Klassy. No matter what kind of light you try to put her under, florescent or Quoizel lighting, you’ll get the same result. Angelina just needs to grow up some and learn that classy with a C is being a proper lady. When you act trashy and talk with a filthy mouth, you are just being Klassy which is not something to brag about. In any case, I still love Jersey Shore and am so happy Season 2 has started and Season 3 is being taped right now. You just can’t make up the crap they say and do on that show.

Personalized Gifts – Yay or Nay?

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: General

What are your feelings on personalized gifts? I am in between. There are some items where I like personalized gifts – photobooks, glassware, stationary – and then there are other items where I think it is a tad overboard. I mean who really needs personalized gifts of towels or underwear? Those items remind me of grade school where our parents use to sew in our names into our uniforms or nap blankets. Only now, having it monogrammed makes it feel a little more “adult” or grown up. Kind of acceptable in my eyes. Maybe it isn’t that big of a deal if it is just a first initial but I’m not sure. Maybe I need to think a little more on it. I have an engagement party coming up next month and I need to find a gift to bring. Maybe I should stick with something plain for now. I guess I have some time to think about it.

Houstonians did you know about Ranch 99?

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: General

I live on the west side of Downtown Houston in the Memorial Heights area. As such, I frequently hop on I-10 to go to the Memorial City area to watch movies, shop, and eat.  I noticed about a year ago that the huge Fiesta at the Blalock exit closed. I was sad because from the outside it looked like an ok Fiesta to stop by and visit. Most other Fiesta’s are kind of sketchy but this one looked ok for someone like myself to visit.  Unfortunately, I never made it and when the Ranch 99 popped up in its place I just wasn’t interested. The name made it sound like another dollar store and I just get turned off by those.

That changed today.  I was searching on Yelp to find a farmers market here in Houston and came across Ranch 99 as a good place to buy cheaper produce.  I went ahead and clicked on the reviews since it had a pretty high star rating and found out that Ranch 99 is not a dollar store but rather an Asian grocery store. How crazy is that?! I would have never guessed that with their name.  I went ahead and emailed my Asian husband and demanded that he take me there this weekend. I know the weekends are hectic for grocery shopping but for my first time there it would be nice to have him help me decipher some of the products on the store shelves. After that I’ll just look for pictures like he and my sister-in-law do. LOL

One reviewer said they bought organic Fuji apples for 99 cents a pound and another said they bought Filet Mignon for under $4. I am hoping those are standard prices for this grocery store because if so I see a lot of shopping there in my future.

Trapped!

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: General

Trapped! I am sitting here in the airport waiting and hoping I can get on a plane tonight. The hurricane is making its way through Houston right now and the airports are closed. Just my luck! This was just suppose to be a quick trip over – less than 8 hours but it might turn out to be much longer. Only problem is that I didn’t bring a bag and the Essence festival is this weekend so there probably aren’t any hotel rooms.

Trying to stay positive. I got my book and I’ve hunkered down. I just wish this darn airport had WIFI. WTF right?!

Summer Sale Emails are Flooding my Inbox

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: General

I am on a serious no shopping diet right now. Not because I need to save money (I have that all set up with my new job) but because I’m going to New York for my birthday in September. So I need to save money and closet space so I can properly shop up there. Unfortunately, the summer sale season has begun and I woke up to an exploding inbox filled with email after email announcing sales, additional markdowns, and free shipping. I swear it is like the stores all I know that I MUST be good and they are ganging up against me. LOL I think I’m going to work on my grocery list to get away from the emails and then hit the gym for a bit to fill up some time. If anyone is interested in the sales I would recommend checking out the Gap family of stores and Sephora first.
