This past weekend, my best friend and old roomie came to visit me in Houston. Our plan was to hang out, shop, watch football, and celebrate our birthdays! Friday comes but unfortunately my friend has had the day from hell and still has to drive over. So Mike and I take up at the bar next door to wait and keep a seat warm. So we hung there with our neighbors for a while and then moved on to Buffalo Wild Wings down the street. More seat warming until she gets to town and just wants to go to bed. Totally understandable so we just come in for the night. Besides Saturday was going to be an all day event.
So Saturday comes and we are camped out in the living room starting at 9am with ESPN’s College Game Day. By 2:30 everything is in full swing. I’ve got the 46 inch tv going, the 22 inch monitor connected to the laptop and streaming another game, and the laptop showing another one. By the time the LSU game hits at 7pm and the UFC fight begins we have 3 games on and the fight.
Between the games and the fights, we had a small party going, beer flowing, tasty food, and cookie cake. Then the crazy started coming out of all of us. Mike and his buddies start talking about their new hobby and the next thing I know the guns are coming out for a gun show. Beer + guns is a big no-no. I thought my poor friend was about to die. Luckily everything is kept unloaded but she definitely had a Texas culture shock. I never realized how much I have turned into a Texan over the past few years but it became painfully obvious last weekend. So yeah, last weekend we were one of those beer drinking, gun toting, loons from Texas. LOL

This is a photo of Abby from last week. She’s a little orange sable Pomeranian who likes to rule the household. There isn’t anything you can get past her as the smallest movement will stir her up. She might be a pint-sized pooch but she would use all 4 pounds to protect her household. So overall a fairly normal and cute doggie with a love of Chewy Vuitton handbags.
So where is the confusion? Abby doesn’t know how to potty like a lady. She spent one too many walks with my mother’s male Pomeranian that she now believes she has to lift her leg to pee. The first time I saw it I thought it was just a phase and would go away but it has been over 2 months and she’s still pottying like a boy. I’ve gotten quite a few puzzled looks from visitors and babysitters over this. I guess I can’t complain because she’s not missing the pad. It is just comical to watch but we still love her all the same.

So I’m sitting at my parents’ house right now looking around the living room. The entertainment stand my mother gave my father for Christmas is finally put together and being used. Unfortunately neither one of the gifts I gave them have been used. It’s not like I gave hard to use gifts or anything crappy. My mother received a Kindle at Christmas and my dad received a surround sound system for the living room and large tv. They just haven’t gotten around to figure them out.
Well my mom claims she needs me to help her learn the Kindle. My dad just doesn’t want to rum wires through the attic and through the walls to hook up the speakers. For some reason when I read the product description I saw that the system was wireless capable but didn’t realize I needed to buy an additional piece to make them be wireless speakers. I’m two steps away from throwing the system into my car on Saturday and bringing it back to Houston with me. My condo is prewired for speakers so no need to worry about running wires and whatnot. I’d just have to plop the things on the walls, set up the sub woofer and the control system and I’d be all set. Maybe I’ll find another awesome deal this Christmas and give one to Mike. Then I could at least enjoy the surround sound system even if my family won’t enjoy theirs. It is just killing me. So why do I bother giving gifts?

Wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day 2011. It seems like Mother’s Day is either earlier this year or I’m just oblivious to the calendar. I had no clue what my mother was talking about today on the phone when she told me “happy mother’s day”. I thought she was mentioning it because she is heading out to the beach tomorrow and I won’t hear from her next weekend. Little did I know! At least I have a heads up so I can run out and grab a gift before hitting the road Tuesday night and heading home. It would not have been good to show up empty handed this week.
So Happy Mother’s Day to all mother’s (and mother figures) out there. Your hard work is much appreciated.

Mother’s Day is quickly coming up and is a great way to show your mom or wife how much they mean to you. Typically, moms are showered with flowers, candy, perfumes, and hand painted pictures. All are great gifts – don’t get me wrong – but they are so short lasting. So this year I’m using Mother’s Day as a springboard and will be signing my mom up for once a month flower delivery this year. Now she can celebrate our love for her year round and with seasonal flowers. I am so excited to see how she reacts as she is so very rarely surprised by any of us. She’s just so hard to shop for and surprise. This is going to be awesome!
