Tomorrow Kicks-off Date Weekend!

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: family

I am so excited. Mike is coming home tomorrow after spending all week working over in Beaumont. We are not phone talkers so while we call each other every night, there isn’t much conversation going on. So it is hard to really know what the other is feeling, thinking, and trying to share. Plus some stories are better told in person than over the phone.

Starting around 7:30pm we will begin date “weekend” where we basically just hang out together all weekend. I know it sounds a tad clingy but it really isn’t that bad. I count being in the same apartment but different rooms as being “together” and going to the gym but working out separately as “together” so we do have breathing room. LOL The first thing on our list is going on a Friday night date to one of our favorite hangouts – The Flying Saucer where we can enjoy 3 new to us beers and pizza. Yum! We will probably end the night watching last week’s episode of Tool Academy 3 together.

Saturday Mike is working for a little bit and I’m going to run a few errands. I need to return a couple of library books and then get my eyebrows threaded. While I’m running around, dinner will be cooking in the crockpot. We are having BBQ pulled pork. Yum! We’ll do our standard trip to the gym and then head to the grocery store before coming back home. To end the night it will probably be either watching Iron Man or playing Toy Story Mania on the Wii. We bought it back in September and never played the game yet!

Sunday is going to be a chore day. Gym, laundry (but no tanning), and then a trip to the mall so I can find a suit and find a bucket hat with a draw string. I need the suit to interview in and the hat to vacation in. I’ll probably spend some time reading as well and sorting through junk around the apartment.

Should be a fun weekend and I am really looking forward to it. I hope you have a fun and relaxing weekend planned as well.

I was subjected to animal porn at the zoo today

Posted by: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: family

Mike and I woke up pretty early today. We quickly fell into our morning weekend routine: Mike playing video games in the guest bedroom and me reading in bed. Around 9:15 I finished my book and decided to face the day. Since it was so early I told Mike to get dressed as we were going to the zoo. We haven’t been in a few months and I recently read that there are some new lions living at the zoo as well as a new jaguar cage.

We took our normal route and visited Toby, the red panda, then off to say hi to the meerkats, the giraffes, and the elephants. We continued over to the big cats area and since it was a breezy, cloudy day all of the cats were out and about. It was really nice because alot of the time when we go they are all hiding and sleeping but we saw each and every one of them. We finished with the cats and went to visit the bears before deciding we were hungry and needed to wrap it up. Typically, we hit the monkey area last because it is on the way out and Mike loves the orangutans. Halfway through we saw that the mandrills were out walking around. We have a boy and 2 girls. Mike and I have always seen them on the ground, never up on ropes but sure enough we saw a female had made it up a rope and was hanging out. Right as we were turning away Mike pointed out that the male was climbing the fence and then the next thing you know they were both on the ground going at it. Animal porn. I know I was at the zoo and when you mix males and females together you run the risk of having that happen but since it hadn’t happened in the 4 years Mike and I have been going to the zoo I was just thrown off guard. It was one of those times when you are in such shock over it that all you can do is laugh and watch. Luckily it didn’t last too long but it was pretty hilarious.

After that we called it a day and went for some Greek food before coming home and taking a nap. The adventure just wore us out. LOL

Our elephant meet and greet

Yesterday was Mike and I’s trip to the Houston Zoo to take our family holiday photo.  It was our first photo as a married couple and I was actually really excited about it.  I have to say that at first I wasn’t too sure about taking a photo with an elephant mainly because of the cost – $40 and all you received was 1 photo!  But Mike really really wanted to do this and what could I say?  Of course I signed us up and paid our fee and started to plan my outfit.  I wasn’t quite sure what to wear to take a photo with an elephant but after some thought I felt that turquoise would be good against a gray elephant.  Now that I see the photo I think I planned well.

I have to say that Methai was very well behaved.  She knew her cue words very well and smiled when she was told earning her popcorn snacks. After it was over, we were able to pet her.  I didn’t realize how hairy elephants were!  Definitely a surprise but not a bad one. :)
