Make tax time a little easier with these tips

I hate filing taxes.  I hate it so much that I made sure to be a financial statements auditor and stay as far away from taxes as possible.  In fact, my client is a partnership and, therefore does not even have corporate taxes that I have to worry about.  Talk about some luck.

Luckily for Mike and I, our taxes are fairly straightforward this year.  We have the standard W-2s and then 1099-INT schedules to report and nothing else.  Very easy.  I understand though that not everyone has plain vanilla taxes and often are sent forms and schedules they don’t know what to do about.  I highly recommend visiting the IRS website and trying some search terms until you find the helpful tax information you need.  I realize that saying IRS and helpful in the same sentence can be a little bit of an oxymoron but you can really find some good information on their website.  The last thing you want is to end up owing an exorbitant amount to the IRS and go into debt.  Interest and penalties assessed by the IRS on a late payment or a balance can be awful.  In fact some people consider taking out emergency loans to try and avoid or minimize the interest and penalties they have to pay on the amounts they owe.

I hope your tax season goes as easily as possible. I know there will be a huge sign of relief on April 16th.
