2010 To Be Read Reading Challenge

Author: The Blonde Diaries  /  Category: Books
This entry is part 6 of 14 in the series Book Challenges 2010

** Pick 12 books – one for each month of the year – that you’ve been wanting to read (that have been on your “To Be Read” list) for 6 months or longer, but haven’t gotten around to.
** OPTIONAL: Create a list of 12 “Alternates” (books you could substitute for your challenge books, given that a particular one doesn’t grab you at the time)
** Then, starting January 1, read one of these books from your list each month, ending December 31. )
Additional rules/guidelines for this challenge:

* the challenge is to read 12 TBR books in 12 months — you can read those all in one month if you want, or one a month, or however you wanna do it.
* you should have a list posted somewhere for others to see
* you CANNOT change your list after January 1st, of the current year!!!
* you can create an Alternates list of MAXIMUM 12 books, if you want, in order to have options to choose from (you can read these in place of books on your original list).
* audiobooks and e-books ARE allowed
* re-reads are NOT allowed, as they aren’t TRUE “TBRs”
* you CAN overlap with other challenges

I participated in this challenge in 2009 and my big mistake was thinking that I didn’t need an alternate book or two.  Unfortunately, my library didn’t have all of the books I wanted to read so I was out of luck with finishing the challenge as I didn’t want to really buy some of the TBR books as they were just books I heard about and thought they’d be nice to read at some point but not nice enough to own.  This year I have learned my lesson and will be adding some alternates for back up. My other disclaimer is that I have never had a true TBR list until last month so none of these books have really been sitting on my list for 6 months or longer but it’s ok.

If you want to join in, as always, click the button in this post and leave a comment at Miz B’s site.  This challenge is also running over on the Royal Reviews site under the heading “Wish I would have read that”.  It is slightly different in that you can pick as few as 3 books or as many as 20 books to read.  Make sure to visit their site too and sign up if you want to participate in a TBR book challenge.

You’ve picked some good books–I’m doing this challenge hoping I can get around to reading some of those great books I’ve seen reviewed on the book blogs.

Did you ever read Hypocrite In A Pouffy White Dress by Susan Jane Gilman? It is a hysterical memoir of sorts that I’m sure you would love – just to add another “alternate” to your list!

I have not Bumbles but you know that one would might work in my Buy 1 book and Read it challenge. I like funny books so I will definitely keep that one in mind.

Great list! There are several on here that I haven’t heard of but can’t wait to check out. That’s the thing about these challenges, and this one in particular. For every book I read, I discover several more that I end up adding to my list.

I’ve heard Hunger Games is amazing. I loved the Harry Potter books (although I read the audio versions), and Twenties Girl is on my Goodreads To-Read bookshelf, but not on my TBR list. Good luck with all your reading challenges!
