I am being totally spiteful and I don’t care!

From Dictionary.com

Spiteful – full of spite or malice; showing spite; malicious; malevolent; venomous.

Spiteful implies a mean or malicious desire for (often petty) revenge: a spiteful attitude toward a former friend.

Ok so you are probably wondering why I am being so spiteful today. Well I’ll share with you.

I have finally gotten over the fact that my local library (the Houston Public Library) is not carrying all of the books in the Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot.  I decided to read these books as part of the 2010 YA book challenge and have fallen in love with Princess Mia and the story of her becoming a princess and falling in love with Michael, her best friend’s older brother.  This led to me breaking down on Saturday and spending my Christmas gift from Tricia at Sunshine Rewards (if you have not signed up SIGN UP!! – click box on left) on books 4 1/2 (one of the ones my library does not have) through 9 in the series.  I figure I’ll catch books 1 – 4 later and grab 10 somewhere around reading book 8 or 9.  I just don’t understand how you can carry part of a series but not the whole thing.  It seems a little odd to me to have some and not all. How can I support my local library if they aren’t carrying the books I need and want to read??

But that was just the beginning of the spiteful mood.

The triggering point came today when I realized that the first two Stephanie Plum books I borrowed were due back to the library. I was trying to do the right thing by renewing them for another 2 weeks.  All I really need is through the end of the week and I’ll be done since I’m at a standstill with the Princess Diaries series (see rant above). So I logged in and tried to renew them.  The second book renewed without a problem. The first book of the series – no dice.  My borrowed copy has been promised to someone else and I can’t renew it. There are other copies sitting on shelves at other library locations. Why must MY copy be promised to someone else? What sense does this make? None if you ask me.

So I made a decision. Screw the library. I’m keeping this book past the due date and will return it when I am ready. We are only talking about 20 cents per day which is much less than buying the book to begin with. Plus I only need it for about 2 days so 40 cents isn’t too bad in the grand scheme of things.

So there you have it. I’m being spiteful by keeping a book for an extra 2 days.  I don’t care! LOL

This post cracked me up! I’m with you. Keep the book the two days. The other person will probably want book 2 when you get done with it anyway. So she might as well wait a bit on book 1.

I think I’m going to have to check out Princess Diaries….

When you said ‘spiteful’ I supposed you meant something a bit more…terrible. I do this all the time, and don’t feel guilty at all. My fines are $.10 a day, and it takes a long time for that to accrue to book prices, so that may be a factor…

    Yay, libraries & small fines!

I have a WHOLE BUNCH of frustrations with our new public libraries (we moved to FL this year from Vegas) Having three kids that need to read at least 30 minutes a day each, we go through a lot of books….well, at least I appreciate my old libraries more!
