I had my first experience with curry last night

I have been curious about trying curry for a few years now. I’m not sure what brought on the curiosity, maybe a movie, or that part in Confessions of a Shopaholic (the book) where Becky tries to save money by making curry but it turns into a disaster. Whatever it was, it has stuck with me and I have been dying to try it. I’ve never quite known where to go to buy a curry dish but last night we decided to order in Thai food from a Houston restaurant, Thai Sticks, and they had a few curries on the menu.

After going back and forth for about 10 minutes, I finally decided to try Choo Chee Curry – it was described as a mild heat curry of shrimp, vegetables, pineapple, and coconut milk. Sounded pretty good to me even though I hate all things coconut. My coworker ordered a different curry (can’t remember the name) that was described as moderate heat.

So 6:15pm finally came and so did my first curry. It looked differently than what I had imagined. I was thinking it would be along the lines of a jambalaya in looks but it was closer than a gumbo (meaning more soupy/saucy than flavored rice). I spooned it over my rice and took my first bite. Really good, until the spice kicked in. OMG was it hot! It definitely was suppose to be a mild heat but it was much hotter than what I would call mild. Luckily I still had a bit of rice left and a full can of Cherry Coke Zero so I was able to mix in rice to decrease how much sauce I had in each bite and washed it with a little Coke. I really enjoyed it but would have liked it to be a little less hot. My coworker on the other had had a really mild curry – must have been the potatoes in there helping to keep the spice/heat down. Maybe I will get her’s next time. :)

I don’t enjoy spicy things but I like curry so you must have gotten the uber spicy stuff. I generally have curry with Indian food. Although our cafeteria makes some delicious curry chicken salad.
