I am an avid reader. I just love to get lost in a good story and let my imagination run wild with it. Imagining the scenery, the characters, the surroundings, a good book is your key to forgetting everything going on around you.
As much as I love a good book, my closet is suffering from spending money on books and not new clothes. So I’m having to make a small shift in my budget but I don’t want to give up reading. So today, while I was out and about, I passed by a public library branch here in Houston. I quickly turned in and decided that I had put off getting a library card long enough. In fact, it has been a year since I printed the application form at work and filled it out – I found that application last week while cleaning my desk at work. LOL
I walked out with 2 books when I was only planning to walk in and get my card as I didn’t have a list of books to look for but I remembered 1 title and found another book while I was looking for the 1 I could remember. I loved the check out process – just go to a computer and scan the books yourself and print off a receipt with the due dates. Totally awesome and pain free. I can’t wait to read these and then bring back my actual book list so I can complete all of my book challenges before the 1st of the year. Saving some space in the apartment, some money from borrowing books, and some trees. How awesome is that?

@Jenn – I figure if there is a book I absolutely love then I’ll just have to buy a used copy on amazon or check out bookcloseouts. So it is all good still.

Awesome! The process is somewhat similar to Singapore. Although I don’t live there, I’ve seen how the books are checked out. Totally cool! Enjoy your books!

I never really considered the library as a good budgeting tool but it certainly is! I read probably 90% from library books. And my list of books I want to read is so long that I never have trouble finding something available to check out. Congrats on visiting your branch!
