I gave in. I joined Twitter. Now what?

I gave in and finally joined Twitter. I hear about it all the time but I just didn’t really feel the need to join into yet something else that would need frequent updates. But curiosity got the best of me as I have been trying my hand at blog contests which give extra entries for tweeting about the contest as well as seeing the recent Twitter entries from Rampage Jackson after Forrest ran out of the octagon last weekend. It all just drove me over the edge to try it out.

Luckily, Kimberly at All About Kimberly has been a member and was able to guide me through setting up the Twitter Tools plugin and configuration. I am hoping it makes things easier for me to both blog and do a little Twittering. I’m still not sure what to Twitter about or do with Twitter but I guess I’ll learn with some practice. First, hyperlink your twitter name above to http://www.twitter.com/blondediaries so that we can just click on it to friend you. :)

I started using Twitter MUCH more after I did two things: 1) Installed Tweetdeck on my computer, and 2) Got Tweed on my phone. Now I find myself Twittering all the time! I still only have a few hundred followers, but I have actually picked up a couple of interesting opportunities through it.

Also, have you looked at the new IZEA sponsored tweets? If you do IZEA pay per posting, it’s an interesting option.

Thanks for the information. I will have to look into those two things. It took about an hour last night to figure out how to get it in my sidebar and I haven’t quite figured out the shortened Twitter URL but I’ll get there slowly.

Hmmm – I will let you be my Twitter guinea pig. I don’t have enough time for the blog and my job and my part time freelance posts as it is. My hubby handles Facebook quite sparingly. I don’t ever use my cell phone so I don’t text, much less tweet! If you get won over by Twitter maybe I’ll take the plunge. What exactly might I say there or do more effectivly with it that I don’t accomplish on a blog? These are the things I need to know!

As I said, I just kept reading people who joined and hearing the hype around it and figured I might as well set up an account. I’m not sure what I will do but I do hear companies give out coupon codes and hold contests over Twitter. That seems like a plus if I can find all of the ones I am really into. Since I found the plugin for Wordpress for Twitter and installed it, I just plan on Twittering when I log into my blog which is a few times a day. If I had to sign into Twitter like Facebook or Myspace I’d never do it.

I’ll let you know what I think.
