So I’ve never traveled overseas before. In fact, I have only been to Canada and that was when I was 10 and my family only went for 2 days. So I haven’t really had to deal with traveling and money issues before now. My dad is working overseas in England and has started to run into the hefty transaction fees/exchange fees credit cards charge. 3% does not sound too shabby when you first think about it but if you are conducting more than one transaction it can really add up.
So with that knowledge in hand, Mike and I decided to do a little research on credit cards. Of course all of our cards charge at least 3% in foreign transaction fees and Discover just isn’t accepted over there. So we thought we might be in a little bit of a bind with racking up fees as we don’t want to travel with alot of cash. So after much thinking and reading, I found out that there are some cards out there that do not charge a fee. It was difficult to find this information but I managed to stumble upon it. The cards with this feature are all offered through Capital One and with a good credit rating the annual fee is dropped and you can earn rewards. So if you are traveling overseas or doing transactions outside of US borders, you might want to look into a card as it can save you money and money saved is good for the budget.
