The first reports of the swine flu in Mexico didn’t really concern me until the news started reporting that it was spreading. It seems like the virus can now be transmitted from person to person and people who vacation in Mexico and go back home with the virus are spreading it around. Talk about scary. There are no mandatory travel advisories right now but there are requests to postpone or cancel any nonessential travel to Mexico for now.
My coworker has a friend who was planning a cruise next month down in the Caribbean but since her two ports were in Mexico, Carnival contacted her today with a possible change in itinerary due to the flu. So if you are planning any Caribbean cruises this summer you might want to check with your specific cruise line to see what alternative arrangements they are making on your behalf. I hate canceling vacation or changing my vacation plans but for something like this it is probably worth it. Hopefully they are just going to monitor the situation without outright canceling any sailings or just change the ports for people.
If you aren’t traveling, it is a good reminder to make sure to wash your hands thoroughly and keep them clean. Also, now is not the time to be shy about going to see your doctor at the first signs of feeling ill. Good luck everyone!
