I love animals and I love to watch them at the Houston Zoo. The zoo has these enrichment days where they throw in objects that are foreign to the animals and they get to explore and use their senses to figure out what they are and to “play” with them. It really allows you to have different experiences everytime you go to the zoo because you never know what the animals will be doing.
Animals don’t just play with artificial items in their enclosure. In fact, at SeaWorld, the dolphin trainers are actually finding that the dolphins are making their own toys to play with. How? By using their blow holes to blow bubble rings under water. Once the ring is made, the dolphins push it around making it increase and decrease in size. They can even pop the bubbles! These dolphin bubbles are creating entertainment for both dolphins and visitors alike who stop by to watch. The trainers have found that right now, mainly the female dolphins are creating these bubbles to play with but that the “trick” or “technique” to make these bubbles is being taught by the dolphins to one another. Talk about smart animals! If you want to see the action for yourself you can check out the new Dolphin Blog created by SeaWorld and then you can plan you next trip to SeaWorld to see it live! I am looking forward to seeing it in person.
