I love learning something new everyday even if it is something simple or common knowledge to the local population. Today I learned about making pivot tables in Excel. I vaguely remember learning about them in college but I never used them. I see them quite a bit in documents from the traders at my client site but I usually skip past those sheets and get to the ones with the accounting number I need. So I was talking with my new associate and she was having trouble with a coaching note and getting her pivot tables to work. I was pretty impressed because she was actually using them to sort her documents and get to the answers she needed for the coaching note. I had her show me how to make one and they really are pretty simple. I’ll have to see if I can figure out how to use them for my test work to make life easier.
The other thing I learned about today was that most shutters on houses are vinyl shutters not wood shutters like the kind I grew up with back home. It makes sense that I wouldn’t know there were other materials to make shutters out of other than wood because I didn’t realize houses were made using hardy board until I moved to Texas. I never saw anything other than brick or stucco back home.
So have you learned anything new today? It doesn’t have to be mind blowing as you can tell with mine. LOL.
