I know I’ve posted in the past that Mike and I aren’t trying too hard to be green and that we think it is a passing fad like back in the early 90s (remember all of those reduce, reuse, recycle campaigns?). I’ve been searching for ways to save money in our budget so that we can buy a house. We also found out that our companies will not be laying off but raises will be pretty much nonexistent. So we are turning to our budget and going through our monthly expenses. I’ve dusted out the crockpot and started cooking again, cutting the air/heat off completely, using sunlight on the weekends, etc basically the usual. One thing I was hearing about at my last “Go Green” Committee meeting at work was about led lighting. Basically you replace normal bulbs with LED bulbs when the normal ones burn out and the LED bulbs will last longer and are more energy efficient. Of course they cost a little more so I want to research before buying. Have you heard of these or tried them out? Did they really save you money that you could tell/notice?

I started using energy efficent bulbs last year and I LOVE them. I havent had to replace a bulb since I put the first ones in and they are still as bright as they were the first day. As far as the bill goes, I dont think I have seen that large of a monthly difference, but enough of a difference to add up for the year and hey right now every little bit helps. I am one of those that if its energy efficnet Ill do it. I unplug my coffee maker, toaster, etc when Im not using it.

What a great blog page. I love the graphic. Thanks for checking out my tuesday teaser. I popped over to see yours and noticed this post below. I have some experience with LED lighting so I thought I’d offer some ideas. LED replacement bulbs are a fairly new technology and are still undergoing development. The benefits are that they are very long lasting and consume very little energy. The draw backs are the replacement bulbs do not output the same amount of light and the colour is typically very blue. This blue cast can be difficult if you are trying to use them for work environments or as task lighting like reading. Replacing regular bulbs with compact fluorescents gives you a much warmer environment, and they are still very energy friendly. Just a few thoughts.
