I was reading Yahoo! News this past week and there was an article on how real estate investors and people who are looking for a second home or a vacation home are flocking to Detroit as the homes there are fairly cheap and seem to be a good investment for when the economy turns around. With all of the troubles Michigan has had in the past and continue to have weathering this economic storm, I can understand that house values are down which means great vacation or investment home deals can be had.

That article might have focused on Detroit alone, but home values are down everywhere and thus there are hundreds of great vacation or second homes all over. I am not a snow bunny so Detroit would not appeal to me but the mountains and tranquility in Hot Springs, Arkansas, would appeal to me plus it is not that far to drive from Houston for a short vacation. Right now, Arkansas real estate is on the decline making a vacation home there pretty appealing. Just check out the local Remax website for Arkansas and you can find some fantastic houses “on sale”. If Mike and I were in a position to purchase a second home or investment property I’d definitely check surrounding states like Arkansas as I’ve learned you don’t have to go the the hardest hit areas to find a great deal.
