Learning to let go has been the best advice I could have received so far in this whole wedding planning/honeymoon planning debatical that planning can and will turn into. For a while, I was all into planning and wanting everything just so. Then I turned into the anything goes bride and forgot to add my touch to things. So in both cases, the stress added up and I became more distant from my own wedding! It was then that I was told that learning to let go and not stress and worry about everything would make me the happiest and allow me to enjoy this time. I have to agree that that advice has been the most meaningful in this entire process.
Now I can only hope that my mother will heed to it as well and learn to let go. The latest “stressful” issue has been selecting a hotel to recommend to our guests. Houston can be difficult to navigate if you are not from the area. Shoot Mike and I get lost all the time still and we’ve lived here for three years. So for the wedding I decided that staying near the reception would be the best idea since people will be trying to travel around midnight and it is easy to get turned around and end up in a sketchy area.
For this reason, we decided on the Houston Marriott Medical Center as it is located right on the MetroRail which offers easy access if anyone would like to go to the museum district or to downtown for just $2 a day. We went on a tour of the hotel and I really enjoyed the lobby area as it was very spacious and brightly lit and they did have a fairly nice bar area for all of our out of town people to meet up and catch up with one another before and after our wedding. I’m not sure what mom plans to do with Murphf, our flurry friend, but the hotel is also pet friendly so maybe he’ll get to come along.
Mike and I are still trying to decide what to do about the wedding night – do we come back to the apartment or do we get a suite at a hotel? Suggestions are welcome as we really aren’t sure what to do. I could go either way but if I did stay at a hotel I was thinking about staying at the Magnolia Hotel here in Houston which is a pretty cute boutique hotel. I stayed there when I came to Houston for my interview and they have the best cookies and milk that you can grab in the lobby before going to bed each night. Plus the price is fairly reasonable for a suite – $209! That makes it hard to pass up.
I haven’t tried to use Priceline or any of those other sites but I don’t think they have suites that you can bid on. I found a new site tonight for searching for hotels called HotelsCombined.com and they are suppose to search multiple websites to find the best deals. I might give them a whirl and see if I can find a nice suite, maybe the Magnolia even, for a little less than $209 a night. Either way the wedding and the wedding night wherever we stay will be fabulous I’m sure.
