While summer may be officially over and the thought of applying sunscreen is in the back of our minds, this health tip may provide reason for us to still be concerned about our skin and what we put on it. During winter months, many friends of mine turn to sunless tanners to keep from looking too “pasty” white. At the same time, they also think that since it is not as hot outside that they don’t need to worry about applying sunscreen or following the same skin care rules we follow in the summer months. Well here is one health tip below about self-tanners that I did not know and is relevant no matter what time of the year you are using/applying them!
Sun safety -> UV free self-tan can still harm your skin! DHA, an ingredient in self tanners, produces 80% more free radicals than your skin normally battles. Thus your skin is more susceptible to sun damage for several hours after you apply.
So apply before you go to bed to minimize your skin damage and always use sunscreen!
