Fall/Winter is finally starting to show up down here in Houston. It has been a cold 60 degrees this week and my sweaters are coming out of the back of my closet! Sounds crazy I know, especially when I am about to head up to Pittsburgh and absolutely freeze in 40 degrees. I’m not sure how I will be able to make it but some how I will.
So I have been trying to think of happy, warm thoughts to get me through the winter. One thing that came to mind today was bird migration. Now that I have a third floor apartment I can leave things out on my balcony. Before when I was on a first floor anyone could come up and take anything that I left out so I didn’t put anything out. Now I don’t have to worry and one of the things I have been thinking about is installing a bird feeder. Growing up we always had a full bird feeder outside of the dining room window and I remember eating my cereal at the kitchen table, reading the newspaper, and bird watching with my cat Teddy. It was such a nice, peaceful, relaxing time that I would love to recreate it again. I found this pretty nifty, squirrel-proof bird feeder online today for just $35.

It is clean and simple looking and should do the trick. Plus I love how this one can be hung so that it doesn’t take up valuable balcony space. If you are not a winter fan and need something warm to think about, consider shopping for your garden needs now. A bird feeder would be perfect.
