Do not let yourself or a friend become a statistic
Author: The Blonde Diaries / Category: healthWe have all heard of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) but would you know what to do if someone suddenly began to show symptoms of undergoing SCA? To be honest I don’t know if I would know what to do which is scary since a person must be treated within minutes or they will die. SCA is fatal in 95% of the people that it affects.
So now that we understand the seriousness of SCA, which is not the same thing as a heart attack, what can we do to be more prepared. Well, the doctors at St. Jude’s Hospital have put together a few videos to help. The first explains SCA in detail and outlines risk factors that we should be aware of. After we become more informed, the next thing we should do is learn what a Implantable cardioverter defibrillator is and when to discuss with our doctors about implantation. ICDs as they are referred to in the medical world are implanted defibrillators which can be shocked by EMS professionals to help get the heart moving again. I think of them similar to pacemakers but differ just a tad in usage. I am going to continue to read more about this health concern so that I can stay informed and ready to help in case someone I know displays symptoms.
