Darn! I am not sure if you are aware of one of the latest fads in beauty treatments: pedicures which use small fish to nibble away the dead skin from your feet. I read about it in a wedding magazine a month or two ago and became curious about the procedure. I have to admit I forgot long ago and never looked into having it done here in Houston or to see if it was even offered.
I no longer have to worry about finding a spa in the entire state of Texas offering this procedure because our lawmakers have once again stepped in and decided that it is too unsafe and unclean of a procedure and have banned it! The reasoning behind the ban is that since the fish live in these “fish bowls/tanks” and you dip your feet into them, spa owners are not properly cleaning the tank between people as they are not taking the fish out, cleaning, and refilling the water.
Makes reasonable sense until you hear that there have been no reports of disease or illness by anyone who has undergone this process in Texas. Rather, health officials are trying to be proactive. Why not just require a waiver and let us get our pedicures?? I was ok with the no razor blade ruling a few years ago but no fish due to water quality. Lordy. One would think with all of the other pressing issues that pedicures involving fish would be a tad lower on the totem pole but I guess not. I will just have to check next time I am out of state to experience this procedure.

I saw this on one of those summer game shows. I think it was I Survived a Japanese Game Show and thought it was disgusting!! LOL Can’t say I’m disappointed that it’s now been banned.

Ok I will admit I haven’t actually seen this procedure so maybe if I did I wouldn’t be as disappointed. But you gotta branch out and try new things once right??
