Chick Lit Review: Chasing Harry Winston

This entry is part 12 of 25 in the series Chick Lit Reviews

It feels like this book review is way over due. I have been trying to read this book for two months now and just was not able to get into the right mindset to read it until now. Chasing Harry Winston is Lauren Weisberger’s latest book. Like her previous books, The Devil Wears Prada and Everyone Worth Knowing this book focuses on young, single, professional women working in New York City. Of course, they have fabulous jobs and what seems like a very high income.

It wasn’t the characters that led to the difficulty I faced when trying to read this book. The main issue was that there is three main characters and three story lines intertwined into one book and the plot is fairly slow because Weisberger had to build the characters’ backgrounds for you so that you could understand their feelings and actions later in the book. This book reminds me alot of Cocktail for Three which also had three main characters with three different story lines.

The book follows the lives of three young women – Emmy, Leigh, and Adrianna – who are all different when it comes to relationships – you have the girl who can’t commit, the girl who wants to commit but her man doesn’t, and then the girl who feels she has to commit but isn’t happy. Towards the beginning of the book the three vow to change their lives and see where it takes them and this is where the story really starts to pick up and you get sucked into the book. You cheer for them and commiserate with them as they face their various challenges. I have not finished the book but I hope in the end they are all happy and find what is right for them and I am left happy. I hope to finish tonight. If you are looking for a chick lit book to read this has been a pretty good read.
