As a fellow recreational blogger that seems to be increasing the amount of time I spend around here each day, I have started to learn the basics in building a better blog. To build a better blog you need to concentrate on a few things: traffic, quality content, and backlinks. Well, to be honest the first two aren’t too terrible to work on each day. It just takes dedication to promoting your blog and keeping your eyes and ears open to relevant or interesting items you would like to blog about. It is the last part, backlinks, that can be the pain.
What is a backlink? In short, backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. Backlinks measure how important your website or blog is - ie how popular your site actually is.
Rumor has it that backlinks are also part of Google’s page rank equation hence why backlinks are so important to bloggers. So in the spirit of increasing my own backlinks I have added a plug-in to allow my blog to “do follow” comments left by fellow bloggers on my blog. What this means is that if you leave a meaningful comment on my posts I will approve your comment and you will receive a backlink from my blog. Meaningless, spam, or advertisement comments will still be deleted at my discretion and thus no backlinks will be awarded. Backlinks do not kick in until you have left 3 comments on my blog as this is to encourage you to read my blog and discuss posts with me and fellow readers.
If you would like to join the “do follow” movement, the easiest way is to download the Lucia’sLinkLove plug-in for WordPress. It is a really easy and really simple plug-in to install and I have really enjoyed it. Look for my “dofollow” button on the right side bar soon.
Happy Blogging!
