Get Moving to help yourself and others!

Yes! It is time for everyone to get moving not only because it is healthy but it will keep you happy. One of the best ways to get moving is to start out by walking on a regular basis. You do not have to power walk parse but you need to do more than mosey around a track. Just a mile or two a day will work wonders for your health and keep you in shape. Currently, I am working on running again. I love to run but I don’t always have time to run while at the gym. There are only so many hours in a day and sometimes running falls to the side of lifting weights or cooking a healthy meal. One thing that I am doing to motivate myself to run each week is I am setting up mini challenges for myself. Take July for example, I have challenged myself to run 3 miles a week in any combination. Next month I want to up this to 1 mile a day 3 times a week.

Basically, I want to get into shape to run in the charity walks and runs that occur in the fall. In the past I have always walked them but I would love to run them for once in my life. I find these walks are a great way to get outside and help really good causes that you might not have heard of in the past or “pay them back” for helping you or a loved one in the past. This year I have chosen a few races that are near and dear to my heart with one being the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk in memory of my great uncle who has Alzheimer’s. I hope that one day a cure can be found so that no one has to go through what he has gone through. This Memory Walk is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. It is a 2-3 mile walk that occurs one weekend each fall so check your city’s events to find out which weekend it comes to your town. I hope that by teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association, I will be able to help this cause move closer to a world without Alzheimer’s. I firmly believe that if we all work together, we can MOVE a nation and help fight this disease.

Remember to check your city’s events and the link above so that you may participate in this walk or any other walk that is close to your heart.
