Sushi was a bust :(
Last night Mike and I went out for sushi as previously discussed in my blog. Originally we had planned on going to Sushi King but Mike read some very mixed reviews on Citysearch and at the price point on the menu he didn’t want to take a chance on a crummy birthday dinner. I can’t say I blame him for that either. So we got ready after I came back from my hair appointment and set out for Ra which is my favorite sushi place here in Houston. We drove on over only to discover that apparently after 9pm they roll out a carpet and put up a barrier outside of the restaurant - basically a line making you wait outside until they either a) deem you cool enough to enter or b) someone leaves so you are “allowed in”. Umm… this is a restaurant and it’s freaking Houston. Give me a break!
So Mike and I were not about to participate in this game and decided to give Rickshaw a try since we always see it when we go to Chuy’s. The reviews on Citysearch were ok so we figured why not. Well, the drinks were good (though they all seemed to include the same mix of liquor - peach schnapps, vodka, sweet and sour, and then 1 other random liquor) but the sushi was just eh. I don’t know how to describe it other than supermarket sushi which is not good for $10 a roll. Our favorite roll of the night was the one we just decided to try for the heck of it - buffalo chicken - which isn’t even close to sushi. Oh well. We had a good time anyways but probably will go elsewhere for our next sushi night. I would recommend Rickshaw for drinks on a Friday or Saturday as they had a DJ playing hits from the 80s/90s which was fun.

Yeah we really did have a good time other than the actual taste of the food.
