After 3 months
I have finally watched the Netflix movie I have been holding hostage. I didn’t realize until I logged into Netflix the other day that I have had Hairspray sitting on top of my dvd player since March. I’m not quite sure why I haven’t gotten around to watching it since I love musicals and I haven’t had a lack of time to watch this movie. Who really knows I guess.
So tonight while Mike was playing NBA Live 08 on the PS2 I popped the movie into my computer and was determined to watch this movie so I could send it back to Netflix. I found the movie to be very well done in both the acting and singing as well as having a great cast. I don’t think this will be a part of my regular play list of movies to watch over and over again but when I am in the mood for a musical I definitely see re-renting this movie. The movie takes place in Baltimore during the 1960s and when integration of the races began. The focus of the movie is integrating the local tv station dance show. The movie had some very good themes: being true to yourself, feeling comfortable in your own skin, standing by your friends, and standing up for your beliefs.
My only complaints are that it felt at times that the movie was going a little slowly but did seem to pick up so the slow times weren’t long lasting and I didn’t realize the song Hairspray from the 1980s was written specifically for that version of the movie and kept patiently awaiting that song and it never came. So I was slightly disappointed over that but there were many other good songs to listen to so not all was lost.
Overall I give this movie 3.5 stars out of 5 and would watch it again.
