Don’t you just hate it. You do everything possible to stick with your diet. You eat your fruits and veggies, drink your water, eat low cal/fat/carb and basically cut down (not back) on your favorite foods. Then you come across a new brand at the grocery store and in the rush of reading the label you think you hit the jackpot: your favorite food but it fits your diet. Hallelujah!
It happened to me last Sunday shopping at Central Market (HEB’s version of Wholefoods). Just a little background: I love bagels but do not love their calorie content. That said I have had to cut down because I can’t “afford” to have them often on weight watchers since the bagel alone has a points value of 5-6, then you add whipped cream cheese, and a glass of milk and you have just eaten half your points for the day! (oy)
Now back to the story. I’m at Central Market getting run down by the small 2-tiered carts and I finally make it over to the frozen section to pick up the only 2 items I ventured in for: vitamuffins and kabuli pizza crust. Both are weight watcher friendly food items. I started getting curious as I had heard about the alternative bagels made by the Western Bagel Company and thought maybe they had them there. No such luck but I found another brand claiming to be 160 cals/0 fat/0 fiber. Well its not great but per serving that’s 3 points and I can deal with it. So I throw it in the cart and off I go.
This morning as I start toasting my bagel and noticing how large it is I started wondering how it was only 3 points. So I read the label in the comfort of my apartment kitchen only to find out that was for 1/2 a bagel. So my 5 point breakfast quickly turned into 8 points (thank goodness the cream cheese was bad) and I now have to be creative in my meals for the rest of the day to ensure I don’t go over my points today.
Lesson well learned: Read the labels closely especially the serving sizes! Guess I’ll have to place an order for the Western bagels. They are only 1 point for an entire bagel.

Ha! This is a great post &I know exactly what you mean. I learned that lesson te hard way also and now always remember to check srving size at the grocery store. By the way, I order from western bagel.com about nce a month to stock up on pitas, bagels and english muffins. Only 1 pt each and well worth it.
